Welcome to the Sixty-Eighth Edition of the A.I. Healthcare Report! The Longhorns were on a bye this week but will play the Florida Gators next Saturday and have taken the number 5 position in the College Football Rankings. The Aggies are now ranked 15 after a loss to South Carolina 44-20 and will face New Mexico State in their next game on November 16th. A lot of exciting things happening in College Football. A huge congratulations to the World Series Champions LA Dodgers!

1.Meeting on the Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare Safety Program

HHS is required by Executive order (EO) to construct an Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare Safety Program with federally listed Patient Safety Organizations (PSOs).

The main objective of the meeting is to discuss implementation of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare Safety Program by the (EO) and where attendees can provide suggestions on the program.

The meeting will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST and will be held virtually.


2.Product-Specific Guidances; Revised Draft Guidances for Industry; Availability

The FDA has announced additional revised product-specific guidances for industry.

The draft guidances dispense product-specific recommendations on items that include the design of bioequivalence (BE) studies for abbreviated new drug applications (ANDAs).

On June 11, 2010, the FDA announced guidance for industry called "Bioequivalence Recommendations for Specific Products” which aimed to have product-specific guidelines available to the public on the FDA website.

Please submit draft guidance by December 30, 2024.


3.Reauthorization of the Over-The-Counter Monograph Drug User Fee Program; Public Meeting; Request for Comments

The FDA is hosting a public meeting to discuss the reauthorization of the Over-The-Counter [OTC] Monograph Drug User Fee Program (OMUFA) for FYs 2026 to 2030.

The current legislative authority for (OMUFA) expires on September 30, 2025.

The public meeting will be held on November 20, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Please submit comments on the public meeting by December 20, 2024.


4.National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases; Notice of Meeting

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) will be hosting a public meeting.

5.Agency Information Collection Activities: Proposed Collection: Public Comment Request; Information Collection Request Title: Process Data for Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network

Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is seeking public comment on proposed data collection by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995.

HRSA plans to submit an Information Collection Request (ICR) to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

Before submission, HRSA is seeking comments from the public.

Please submit comments no later than January 3, 2025.

The National Cancer Institute (NCI), an institute in the NIH gives a $2 million Small Business Innovation Research contract to Dallas-based Pieces Technologies.

Ruben Amarasingham, CEO of Pieces Technologies, was quoted as saying the following:

“The technology being studied has potentially far-reaching implications in multiple domains, including cancer care, SDOH management and patient empowerment. For the first time patients will have broad ability to ask any question or detail about their care to a highly supervised AI. We’re thrilled to work alongside MetroHealth on this groundbreaking work.”

R. Douglas Bruce, MD, SVP, chief clinical integration officer of MetroHealth was quoted as saying the following:

“We’re eager to collaborate with Pieces to leverage the unique capabilities of AI to help clinicians move one step closer to resolving the SDOH disparities that our patients face.”


Oracle to launch new AI-backed EHR in 2025

Austin-based Oracle Health will release an AI-centric EHR next year.

Seema Verma, executive vice president and general manager of Oracle Health and Life Sciences, was quoted as saying the following about the EHR:

“It’s a misnomer to even call it an EHR, because it’s no longer a record-keeping system, but instead it’s a dynamic, evolving system of intelligence that spurs action to ensure better patient outcomes..."


Congressman Jack Bergman Visits Med Claims Compliance in Austin for Exclusive Demonstration of AI-Enabled Healthcare Technology

Congressman Jack Bergman [R-MI-01] traveled to Austin to visit with Med Claims Compliance.

John Bright, CEO of Med Claims Compliance, was quoted as saying the following:

"Our goal is to reduce cost, inefficiencies and administrative burden for healthcare professionals and payors."

Congressman Bergman was quoted as saying the following:
