Here is my comment to Bridgette. "No doubt about it. But you are a results driven person. Who clearly understands what’s important. With many managers/owners it has much less to do with having the right person and much more to do with a manager’s need to control. If the manager in question lacked proper training or experience or is insecure that employee would have received a completely different answer and the company would have most likely lost a good performer. That’s why it is so important to put people with natural leadership capabilities into management positions. Too often companies promote the person who has “hung in” the longest and knows the job rather than to promote or hire the person with the strongest potential. Our research shows that middle management is considered the weakest part of an organization, causing much of the turnover and limiting team member growth." https://lnkd.in/gKqHtAy3
An employee asked me if he can WORK from HOME permanently. Here is what I told him. "As long the work gets done I don't care whether you work from the South pole or the office. I hired you for a job and I trust you to get it done." That employee saved 3 hours on commute. Happy employee = greater productivity. I learned then that if you focus on presence, you get presence. If you focus on results, you get results. If you can't trust your employees, why hire them at all? Trust is key. Agree?

I am privileged to have had holocaust survivors among my grade school teachers. These teachers of all people knew what it meant to have everything taken from them. They lost their homes, communities, occupations, family and even their dignity. And whenever the opportunity came about they shared their greatest life lesson: “they can take everything you own, they can kill you and your family, and they can strip you of your most basic human rights. But what they can never take is what you know. And with knowledge you can rebuild your life and family and communities, and restore dignity for all mankind. I am humbled and blessed to have been educated by these amazingly strong and incredibly wise people. Forever grateful.
