61: DRINKS WITH FRIENDS

In NYC a few weeks ago, I was able to enjoy celebrating my mother's birthday with an incredible person, chef Daniel Boulud , that I have known since I was at NYU & I can't say how thrilled I am to call him my friend. In this newsletter, I talk about trying to make your 1st film, but the closer I get to my dream coming true, the more all I care about is friendship.

Having lunch with the absolutely wonderful James Woolley , director of the Miami Film Festival this week we expounded on the same: running film festivals is work, but if we're friends, it's a pleasure.

Last week, during my lunch with my compatriot and brain behind Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios LatAm Javiera Balmaceda I not only had a wonderful time, I meant to. The joy of getting to meet someone who had done cool projects and who is cool enough to spend time with you makes every impulse for an agenda melt in my brain.

The same things happened when we had 4 o'clock - yes 4pm - drinks at the Key Biscayne Yacht Club with the Key Biscayne Film Festival fundraising committee. This isn't flexing. The fact is that it takes an exceedingly long time to earn a living wage from making art and if we're not having fun while we do it, then what are we doing? If we're not enjoying what we're doing and each other's company, then:

I have a meeting coming up with Mark Pulaski with whom we're shooting my 1st feature this summer. Will we fit all there is left to film in the current budget? Perhaps. But the most important thing is: How much are we loving life while doing it?

That should be the metric.
