State Senator Scott Wiener, who introduced the bill, emphasizes the need for proactive regulation to mitigate AI risks while fostering innovation. A new study by Washington University in St. Louis has revealed that when people believe they are training AI, they tend to modify their behavior to appear more fair and just. This finding, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), suggests that the process of training AI influences human decision-making, with potential implications for AI development.
The study, led by PhD student Lauren Treiman, involved participants playing a bargaining game where some were told their decisions would train an AI. Those participants consistently made more equitable choices, even at a personal cost, and continued this behavior even after being informed their decisions were no longer influencing AI training.

Despite the potential of prescriptive analytics, most orgs are still struggling with and entrenched in traditional BI, missing out on the insights of advanced analytics & AI. While BI helps understand past performance, prescriptive analytics suggests optimal actions for future outcomes. But its adoption is limited due to the perceived complexity and risks of implementation: compliance. Prescriptive analytics requires a shift from analyzing historical data to predictive models and optimization techniques for recommendations, becoming increasingly embedded. That sort of transition calls for technical expertise and cultural change to trust decisions augmentation. So many organizations remain reliant on BI, overlooking opportunities for a decision advantage. To overcome this, integrating Generative AI (GenAI) can make prescriptive analytics more accessible, sure. GenAI in decision modeling for simulating scenarios and natural language processing, enabling businesses to move from reactive to proactive strategies. Embracing composite AI can transform biz decisions, but it’s probably BI before AI for most. What do you foresee?
