600 Days of Meditation in a Row
It all started with an idea to give it a go and do 30 days in a row of a headspace mediation. It went well and I thought - why not to go big and do 180 days. Then… 600 days later and another idea how would it be to do 1000.
As much as I like challenges and long term plans putting in motion day by day the meditation has a special place in my life. Despite its scientifically proven benefits, it’s nerve been a magic pill to get things sorted. Most of the time my mind is all over the place and sometimes it works like a charm to calm my crazy mind and focus. I like to be busy and get as many things done as possible, however slowing down even for 10 minutes during a day is a must nowadays.
The saying that convinced me to do it on a daily basis was
"If you don’t have 10 minutes for yourself on a daily basis you actually need two hours."
I'm not sure who said that but I would bet I've heard that for the first time from Tim Ferriss' Podcast.
As with everything practised for a long time we can have our thoughts and conclusions based on practical experience. There are a couple of them:
I believe meditation, or I would rather call it being present to the moment, will work for everyone. It's just a matter of finding the right method to bring our thoughts to reality and calm the mind. We live in such a high pace world and slowing down, even for 10 minutes, can bring more benefits to our life comparing to mindlessly scrolling through our social media feeds or answering another batch of emails.
When I thought a bit longer about the biggest benefit of doing it for 600 days straight, it would be the practice of discipline. There were times when I could chill out at a beach enjoying the moment or starting my day with meditation to set the tone. However, there was a time at the back of the ambulance on the way to a hospital trying to go through headspace to be sure every single day I found 10 minutes for a headspace no matter what.
Each of them counted and were a part of the learning curve on how to be present to the moment and disciplined every single day. I'm excited what another 400 days of mediation will bring to my life.
