60 seconds with… Gary Milne of Flexitallic Group
Ahead of next week’s Bolted Joint Technology seminar, we spoke to to hear more about what attendees can expect from the seminar, including his presentation: “The Competence of the Bolted Flange Assembler: Global Perspective”.
Could you briefly explain your current role and involvement in pressure systems within your industry?
As Academy Director I work with various Technical Authorities within the Upstream/Downstream sectors conducting Site Integrity Audits, underpinning involvement in several standards committees appertaining to Flange Integrity and delivering various accredited training courses also remains key to my role.
What do you see as the most important considerations for bolted joint technologies at the moment?
Advancement in Sealing Technology and new Training Standards are underpinning reduced incidents. New technologies are very pragmatic however this can be a barrier to acceptance by sites that are resistant to change.
What topic/s are you most looking forward to discussing at this year's seminar?
General feedback from the Legislator and Plant Managers – both have extreme challenges ahead – ref financial restraints and extended turnarounds.
What do you see as the future of these assets in the next few years?
Change is happening and Flange Management and Accredited Training, together with advances in Sealing Technology all add optimism for the future.
Looking at the programme, which sessions are you looking forward to hearing this year?
Paul Stanworth - Legislation and compliance issues. Plus Alex Berry from P66 as interesting to see the challenges faced and decision tree to conclusion.
Why is it important for engineers to join this seminar? What makes the IMechE seminars of particular relevance?
Engineers innovate and the event provides a positive environment to debate current industry best practice with those engineers who have experienced success and failure in the Integrity of Bolted Flanged Connections.
