From overworked to thriving: How Business Mentoring transformed one business
In 2011,?Debbie Whitaker?founded?Not Just Numbers, a digital accounting practice with the goal of providing clients with a seamless virtual finance department. But as the business grew, so did the challenges. Without guidance, Debbie found herself overworked, undervaluing her services, and stretched too thin.?
The turning point came in 2014 when she contacted me and sought mentorship, we had connected through a networking group and I was front of mind after sending her congratulations for her third birthday. We discussed the challenges and how we could tackle them, and started our 10+ year journey together.? We tackled critical business hurdles: pricing strategies, client management, team growth and repositioning her offering to attract better clients.?
The results were transformational. Within a year, Debbie had exceeded her financial targets, retained all her clients despite pricing adjustments, and discovered the confidence to let go of unfit partnerships. Over the next decade,?Not Just Numbers?quadrupled its workforce, grew substantially in turnover and profit, and now operates entirely on referrals where she gets to choose which clients she works with.
Alongside this she gets do more outside of work.? Quality time with friends and family, riding her motorcycle and horse-riding.
