6 Years at Revoco
It’s been 6 years since Revoco started, I still remember now being sat in a tiny “office” with Iain Blair (FIRP) , waiting for the phone to ring?wondering if we had done the right thing.
6 years later and I’m glad to say that we definitely did make the right decision and I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of the Revoco family. Gone are the days when I would falter when people asked what I did for work, and I am genuinely proud to work for a business that I think does recruitment well, whilst also providing an environment most people would enjoy working in, regardless of the industry in 2023.
I’ve set myself the task of trying to be a bit more vocal on LinkedIn this year, so here’s a crack at what I think we do really well and why I’m proud of Revoco.
Authenticity
When I started out in recruitment, I was always conscious I didn’t fit the typical mould of a “recruiter”. My motivations were much more abstract than buying a watch or a car, and how I wanted to engage with people was also different. What I’ve since come to realise, is that my difference is actually a strength and by being my true self, I am able to fulfill my role in the best way possible. I think that’s why the core tenant of authenticity is so important to me and why I hope that people who have joined us find it a breath of fresh air.

Autonomy/Trust
Similar to the first point, I think we allow people to explore the kind of recruiter they are and let them nail what they are truly good at, whilst giving them the structure and guidance to develop in areas they might be weaker in. The trust bestowed on all of us at Revoco speaks volumes to the culture created by
Christine Christodoulou and Iain Blair (FIRP) . The 2pm finishes on a Friday while on the face of it might seem gimmicky, have a really positive impact on people’s lives, and actually increase productivity.

Giving a Damn
I don’t think it’s news to anyone that the majority of recruitment businesses are driven solely by profit, billing, and growing the bottom line. The culture that breeds is one of greed and forces some unfortunate practices and trends which give recruiters a bad reputation. Whilst it would be disingenuous of me to say that as a business, we aren’t bothered about growing our billings and bottom line, we understand that we have a duty of care to the people we engage with and act accordingly. This was shown recently when someone who joined us in the past 12 months, flagged that they decided to mutually withdraw a candidate from a process as the proposed offer being presented wasn’t going to fulfill the candidate’s needs. They wanted to work on finding that candidate something better. The consultant remarked that in the past they would have been driven to place that deal, whatever the cost, but felt so much better knowing they had done the right thing. Contextually it’s only one incident, but I think speaks volumes to why we do care, and why I am once again proud to call Revoco my work home.
Everything else
There are so many things that make me grateful to work here, from the serious stuff like the unquestioned support and time I’ve needed when dealing with grief and loss and more recently, having a baby. Through to the fun things, like convincing the leadership team of the benefits of jumping in a freezing lake with me and sheep herding at Campwell Farm .
We might not be perfect, and like any business, there are things for us to work on, but I am completely honest when I say I think we do the important things well and we have lots to be proud of as we turn 6 today!

2 年Congratulations on the 6 years Josh Abbott I remember meeting you and Iain Blair (FIRP) for a beer after those first few weeks when it was just you guys. Seems like a lifetime ago! Its been great to see the growth and successes both you and Revoco have had and continue to have. Huge congrats. You are all a credit to the industry.
