There have been many pioneers recognised for their work within the forever-changing technology world. Usually we hear about Steve Jobs, Alan Turing, Bill Gates etc… However, there have been many women throughout history who have led the way in making technology what it is today.
Here’s a list of 6 women, technology pioneers we think you should know about.
Hedy Lamarr
Lamarr was particularly valuable in WW2. She helped manipulate radio frequencies which prevented messages being intercepted by the enemy.?
She is also known for inventing Spread Spectrum Technology (aka Wireless Communication). This kickstarted the revolution of Wireless Connection Devices.
Radia Perlman
Perlman invented the algorithm behind the Spanning Tree Protocol. Her invention has allowed the internet to grow success to success. In basic terms, she transformed IT technology to withhold large networks with 100s of thousands of nodes.
Grace Hopper
Hopper was one of the first programmers of the Harvard Mark I computer. She developed one of the first modern programming languages COBOL. Her contribution to computer programming has led to the growth of programming languages, for example, Python.?

Hu Qiheng
Without Hu Qiheng, revolutionising China may have been a more difficult task. She led the project team which brought internet to mainland China. She then went on to establish the China Internet Network Information Centre, and co-founded the Internet Society of China.
Ada Lovelace
Perhaps the most likely woman in tech to be spoken about, Lovelace is known to be the first computer programmer. Initially, she translated a short article describing the analytical engine. However, she was later asked to elaborate as she had much more understanding than anyone else. The elaborated article included early computer programs, potential uses of the machine, and the manipulation of symbols.
Mitchell Baker
Have you heard of Firefox? Baker is the founder of the non-profit tech company Mozilla, who went on to create Firefox, a free, open-source web browser.
