6 Ways to Make Money on Halloween
The spookiest job I ever interviews for was to work at Universal Studio’s Halloween Horror Nights. I went to college in Orlando so it was easy to audition for theme park gigs but none ever sparked my interest until I saw an ad that said “get paid to be scary.”
I was a freshman in college and needed the cash. Plus, if I could make $12-$15/hour screaming BOO! at people in haunted houses, why wouldn’t I pursue this seasonal role?
I didn’t get the job. I filled out an application, went on an interview, and I guess when I tried to be scary, I just was not “scary enough”.
I’ve always loved the fun and odd parts of Halloween and wondered what kind of gigs you could get if you love the holiday too.
I found some odd ones for you. Keep scrolling…if you dare.
6 Last-Minute $-Making Halloween Gigs
With less than a week until Halloween, I wanted to share some practical and quick odd gigs you can literally start today to make cash money.
Halloween Party Decorator
People are slowly crawling out of the pandemic and throwing Halloween parties. Some go all out with their decor and would hire you to show up at their home, or the venue of the party, and transform the space into a spooky and instagram-able atmosphere.
How to do this:
You can source the decorations online and buy them in bulk at a discount. You could charge $500+ (depending on the size of the venue). Advertise this on social media, local neighborhood groups, or reach out to community groups who are having parties because they might need last-minute decor help.
Spooky Makeup Artist
There are people who are eager to pay a makeup artist to help them truly transform into the costume or character they’ve picked to dress up as this year. These makeup artists book up fast so there’s always room in this space for you to enter, if you’re good at makeup and can do a lot of the popular face painting that people like (vampires, zombies, etc.)
How to do this:
You could charge $150+ (depending on the job). Advertise this on social media, local neighborhood groups, or reach out to friends and ask them to spread the word.

Pumpkin Carving Zooms
I love carving pumpkins but I’m not very good at doing that. Why not offer a Zoom pumpkin carving party where you walk people through how to carve amazing pumpkins?
How to do this:
You could charge $50+ and advertise on AirBnB experiences and social media.
Character Appearances
Have a bunch of costumes just sitting around? You could get hired to show up at parties wearing one to entertain guests or so that they can take photos with you.
How to do this:
You could charge $150/hour. Advertise this on social media, local neighborhood groups, or reach out to community groups who are having parties because they might find this super entertaining for their event.
Haunted House Worker
Even though I didn’t the job as a Halloween Horror Night employee, it doesn’t mean I’m not a fan of working in haunted houses. This is a great last-minute gig to check out and snag before the weekend.
How to do this:
Look up haunted houses nearby and send an email to see if they are looking for last-minute help.
Ghost Tour Creator
I love a good ghost tour and if you’re into them as well, consider creating a ghost tour of your city.
How to do this:
You could charge $50+ and advertise on AirBnB experiences and social media.
