Amazon Prime Day starts today (Monday 15th July) and runs until tomorrow promising bargains on over a million products - here are 6 quick tips to stay ahead of the Prime pack:
- Price Check - you'd assume you always get the best pricing on Prime Day but it's not always the case. Always do a background Google check on products just to see if the product can be purchased elsewhere for cheaper. Big retailers such as Walmart have got smarter against the likes of Amazon and are running their own promotions simultaneously and often for longer
- All that glitters - fakes do exist on Amazon via 3rd party sellers so always check what you are buying and also keep an eye out for fake reviews (according to the experts at Fakespot.com they reckon as many as a third of all reviews on Amazon are not real).
- Gone phishing - the scammers will have a field day trying to convince you to part with your hard earned cash for goods that don't exist or to give up your private data for free. Prime Day is prime territory for fake emails and offers from those purporting to be from Amazon but are in fact phoney.
- If it's too good to be true - sometimes the best advice is the oldest. You may be tempted buy a 4K 70 inch TV for $99 but be realistic - even if it is a real offer, the chances are is that it is of inferior quality and from a manufacturer you have never heard of
- Lightning strikes - the 'Lightning Deals' from Amazon are often amongst the best bargains to be had - limited deals that disappear as soon as the product is fully sold out. There is no real strategy to these as you don't know what's coming up and when but keep a beady eye out for them as this is where the real deals exist. And this year will be the first time they will offer deals and vouchers on food purchases.
- Amazon owned - the deals on their own kit will be amongst the best to be had so look for heavily discounted (around 50%) deals off the likes of the Amazon Echo, Show, Spot, Ring and Fire. That said, Google Home have already discounted their own voice activated units already by roughly the same amount and will likely extend their offers beyond Prime Day.
