6 Toxic AF Marketing & Sales Tactics That Need To Go

6 Toxic AF Marketing & Sales Tactics That Need To Go

Here's your reminder that you don't need swarmy sales and marketing tactics to grow your business:

1?? Avoid Fake Urgency

Fake urgency tactics, like arbitrary countdown timers, can damage customer trust and brand reputation. Instead of manipulative deadlines, consider:

  • Offering genuine limited-time bonuses
  • Highlighting real capacity limits (e.g., coaching slots)
  • Communicating authentic reasons for time-sensitive offers

This approach respects your clients' decision-making process and attracts committed customers.

2?? Realistic Result Reporting

The "10X Promise" often oversimplifies complex business outcomes. Instead:

  • Share detailed, verifiable case studies
  • Report a range of results, including average improvements
  • Highlight diverse metrics: profitability, time saved, client satisfaction

For example: "On average, our clients reduced weekly task time from 5 hours to 30 minutes using our AI-enhanced processes."

3?? Balancing Authority and Relevance

While past achievements matter, current impact is more crucial. To showcase your expertise effectively:

  • Keep a comprehensive record of accolades for reference (LinkedIn, media kit)
  • Prioritize recent client testimonials and results
  • Demonstrate how your values translate into tangible client benefits

This approach provides social proof of your current capabilities.

4?? Delivering Value in High-Ticket Programs

High-ticket offeringsshould provide commensurate value. Ensure your premium programs include:

  • Regular, meaningful interactions with clients
  • Personalized support within group settings
  • Clear communication about program structure and expectations

Remember, whether it's a $5,000 mastermind or a $9/month membership, consistent engagement is key to client satisfaction.

5?? Embracing Realistic Positivity

Toxic positivity can alienate those facing real challenges. Instead:

  • Acknowledge the complexity of personal and professional growth
  • Share authentic stories of overcoming obstacles
  • Provide practical strategies alongside motivational content

This balanced approach respects diverse experiences and fosters genuine resilience.

6?? Respecting Cultural Practices

When incorporating diverse wellness or spiritual practices, avoid dismissive terms like "woo." Instead:

  • Educate yourself and clients on the origins of these practices
  • Acknowledge the cultural significance of adopted methodologies
  • Ensure proper training and understanding before integration

This approach honors the heritage of these practices while providing value to your clients.

Ethical marketing builds lasting relationships and sustainable business growth.

By prioritizing transparency, delivering genuine value, and respecting diverse experiences, you can create a thriving business that aligns with your values.

Midlife women are the best leaders on the planet. If you’ve ever climbed the corporate ladder, starting a business is the natural next step in your career.

But decades of pervasive hustle culture, casual workplace sexism, and a lack of mentorship don’t exactly set women up to feel confident making the leap. It took me 27 years of developing multi-million-dollar brands and CEOs—and one earth-shaking divorce—to finally go down that road.

I had to reset everything—starting with my health, that foreign word “boundaries,” and my vision for my own life—if I wanted to build a business that wasn’t just a repeat of the misaligned life I was so desperate to leave behind.

Since then, I’ve coached hundreds of successful women in their 40s, 50s, and older to help them do the same. Because the thing Im 100% sure about is that the world needs way more successful, innovative, and unstoppable women in business.

I now work with midlife women business owners and emerging entrepreneurs to help them bring in $10K+ months doing what they love in one-to-one and group coaching experiences, and in my Aligned AF Community Membership.
