6 Tips to Becoming a Guest Every Radio or Podcast Host Wants to Interview
Did you know that radio and podcast shows are one of the best ways to promote your books and services? You reach the masses and you can begin to increase your influence by building relationships with show hosts and other influencers.
Here are six tips to help you become a great guest on talk radio.
1. Be prepared to talk about current events or breaking news that relates to your book or what you do in your business. Show them that you are knowledgeable.
2. If possible, include a local angle on your story. Wherever the host is located, they have listeners in their local area. If for example, your book or message is about employment for college graduates, talk about the types of jobs that are available or unavailable and the challenges students face in that particular city.
3. Limit the amount of statistics you use during interviews. Incorporating too many numbers will cause the audience to lose interest. If there are one or two statistics you think will have an impact, then mention them.
4. I always advise my clients never to use a cell phone during a radio interview. Mobile phones can cut off at any given time and the audio may end up drifting in and out which decreases the overall quality of the interview. If your phone line drops during a call, don’t expect them to call you back or reschedule the interview.
5. Talk to the host in a conversational and natural manner. You’ll keep the audience interested and they will relate to you.
6. Sometimes you can become really involved in a great conversation but always try to stay on message. Remember to get your key points across in every interview.
Remember, your goal for every interview is to enlighten the listening audience about your book as well as how you can help them, and get them interested them in purchasing your book or learning more about how you can serve them.
