6 Steps to Sell More

There are many factors which impact business growth…you need to have a clear business plan, you need to understand your figures and of course you need to have the systems, technology and people in place to support your growth, but an essential factor of business growth is, of course, making more sales.

1.????Record and Check Your Sales Figures Regularly

The first step in making more sales is to look at your existing sales data…you have that right? If you don’t then your first step is to record your sales data accurately! You’ll want to be recording and regularly checking which of your products or services are your best sellers, as well as which are most profitable (not necessarily the same thing). You want to know which are your best customers and what they have in common. Finally, you want to know where those customers came from or how they found you. Once you have this information (and not before) you can move on to Step 2…

2.????Research the Competition

Take a look at the competition to see what products and services they are offering and how their pricing structure compares to yours. Ensure you are researching companies that you aspire to be…don’t be pulled backwards in terms of offering or price by companies that are inferior to you. Now you have all this information you can…

3.????Introduce new Products or Services

Now you know who your best customers are, what your best or most profitable products or services are and what the competition is doing you can look at introducing new products or services. This could be a new way of selling what you already offer, for example for reoccurring purchases introduce an automatic renewal at a discount which makes it easier and cheaper for customers to buy from you. Or perhaps a service which uses skills you and your team already have to deliver something new. Remember not to stray too far from your Niche so you end up as a ‘jack of all trades’.

4.????Adjust your Pricing Structure

Now you know what your competition are charging you can look realistically at your pricing structure. It might be that you increase the price on some products or services. You could introduce a discount or offer to get new customers on board. Perhaps you could consider payment plans on your more expensive offerings.

5.????Cross Sell and Up Sell

Now you know who your best customers are ensure they know everything you offer. If they already buy from you and are happy then there is no reason they should not be interested in buying more, more often or taking up your other products or services. You could let them know what you offer through social media, email marketing or pick up the phone and tell them!

6.????Enhance your Sales and Marketing

Now you have a clear and comprehensive set of offerings which are effectively priced and you have maximised your sales to your existing customers you can set about reaching new customers. You will need a comprehensive marketing strategy to reach your target audience, which should be delivered consistently to ensure a constant stream of enquiries. This should be combined with an effective sales process so as not to miss out on any potential leads.
