You need to talk about your business in a way that connects with your customers, so they immediately know how you help them and make their lives better.
These steps will help you create a customer-focused brand positioning statement so your business cuts through all the ‘stuff’ your competitors are putting out there and connect with the right customers.
Step 1. Who are you talking to?
Write down who your customers are. What do their lives look like?
Step 2. What are they looking for help with?
What is their biggest problem and how is this making them feel?
Step 3. Why are you the right person for them?
Why should they believe you? Write down your experience and how that makes you the right person to guide them to solve their problem.
Step 4. What’s the benefit to your customers of working with you?
Think about the outcome for your customers, not what your product does but what is the end result, what is the benefit.
Step 5. What do your customers say?
Do you have a quote that you can use to back up all of the above?
Step 6. Bringing it all together.
Look through what you’ve written and pull it together in two or three sentences. This is your brand positioning statement.
Bonus Step
Test your brand positioning statement, read it out loud, shout it out loud! Tell as many other people what your statement is, make sure it is crystal clear to them.
Do not change the order of the structure, this is a proven way of really connecting with your customers.
And finally…
Schedule in some time in your diary – now - to review your brand positioning statement regularly, at least every 3 months.
