1. Personalize the Content

Brand voice is crucial to building rapport with your audience. Your content should reflect that voice, whether light-hearted, fun, formal, or insightful.

AI can often sound robotic because, well, a robot wrote it.?

Personalized content reflects your unique brand and your audience’s uniqueness, which helps you connect.

72% of customers say they only engage with content if it is personalized. Content that speaks directly to customers is like putting a human on a telemarketing call versus using a robocall.

2. Reduce Excess Formality

AI’s default voice is highly formal.? It typically generates content that speaks to “the industry” generally, rather than the reader, specifically.??

To reduce formality, switch third-person references to second-person “you” statements to talk directly to customers. I also recommend reading sentences aloud and rephrasing them to how you might say the same thought in conversation.

3. Add More Active Voice

Another AI default is using passive voice. While some tools can detect passive voice and suggest active alternatives, it isn’t perfect.

Consider these two sentences:

  • “The match was won by Argentina.”
  • “Argentina won the match.”

The second sentence in active voice is much more precise about who the sentence is about. It puts the team who won at the front and center. This setup is also more poignant in declaring the team’s win.

4. Build Authority

Authority is one of the cornerstones of SEO content. Google summarizes the essential elements of quality content through the?E-E-A-T acronym.

Google prioritizes content that embodies E-E-A-T as that article will be the most reliable and will address user search queries.

AI has no experience, expertise, or authoritativeness, which means it doesn’t have as much trust.

To help?build trust?with readers and?improve SEO, add?brand authority. You can add authority through personal experience, advice, and authoritative titles.

5. Say Something Unique

AI can’t come up with new concepts or ideas. It generates content from data someone has already shared.

If you want your content to stand out - add ideas, stories, or examples readers might not see anywhere else online. Case studies and personal stories work very well to add a unique factor.

6. Lose the Fluff

AI is like that talkative relative who always finds the most extended way to convey simple ideas.

I asked AI to tell me about penguins. I won’t bore you with the entire saga it wrote, but here’s one example of a verbose version of a simple idea:

“Penguins are social animals that live in colonies and engage in various behaviors, such as vocalizing, preening, and courtship displays.”

I cut back the fluff and came up with this shorter alternative:

“Penguin colonies socialize by vocalizing, preening, and courting.”

Cut the filler and keep your content to the point.?
