6 Simple Tips for Finding Your True Passion

“Did he have passion?”

When a man died in Ancient Greece, they didn’t write obituaries, they only asked one question, “Did he have passion?”… or at least that’s what they said in the movie?Serendipity. While this may have only been movie magic and not historical truth, it?is?a powerful thought. As a leader, your passion can be incredibly positive and powerful – especially if helping others to grow and succeed is your passion.?

Here are some tips for finding?your?passion:

1. Try Everything

Explore everything you love to do. I went to college for philosophy, religious studies, and film. Then I went back to school for special effects makeup, and again for art and game design. I worked in retail sales, as a fast-food worker, a makeup artist, a game design producer, a project manager, a development manager, a design director, and a studio manager. I also make podcasts, record videos, write blogs, and sculpt. Most of these are hobbies and jobs that I’ve loved. I didn’t love all of them instantly, but over time I identified the things I enjoyed and made them a priority – just like I’ve done with leadership.?

2. Be You

Follow your heart and go where you feel the need to go. Chase your dreams. Your path might change, but don’t worry, it’s not predestined. What you like will change over time; do what you know in your heart is good for you.

3. Don’t Compare

Your journey is yours. Your friends’ journeys are theirs. They are where they are and you are where you are. It’s not a competition. Just like in yoga, what you do when you’re?on the mat?is the only thing that matters.

4. Don’t Let Fear Get in Your Way

Fear?stops more success than failure. Don’t pass up on awesome things just because you’re afraid to take a chance. Like one of?my mentors,?OSHO?puts it, “They say: Think twice before you jump. I say: Jump first and then think as much as you want!”

5. Go Within?

Meditate on it and trust your gut. Your truth can be found inside, so don’t spend your time looking outward for answers and external validation. Only you can define what success looks like – and no matter what?Troy Ave says, it’s not all about the money, money, money.

6. Others Won’t Always Understand Why You Do What You Do and That’s Okay

It’s not a race and you’re not in a rush. If you’re in your 20’s and you still don’t know what your passion is, that’s okay. If you’re in your 30’s and you still don’t know what your passion is, that’s okay. If you’re in your 40’s and you still don’t know what your passion is, that’s okay. If you’re in your 50’s, well, you get the point. Just look at Stan Lee – you can hit your stride at any age!
