Your job search is serious business. The research, planning, and networking can test the patience of the most resilient among you.
?If you are looking to refresh or reinforce your smart job search tactics, let’s review how to assemble actionable career tips with easy to remember monikers and acronyms.
?1?? Develop 3-D Brand Phrases that Stick
Career brand phrases will come to your rescue during networking and at the right moment of brilliance in your interview. Remember 3-D as you mine your experiences and create talking points that impress and are remembered by your interviewer.
DISCOVER. Your experience. Your career map. What have you done? What makes your heart sing?
DEFINE. What is your superpower? What are the scenarios that show your signature strengths?
DELIVER. Share your knowledge and confidence.?Develop your voice for Interviews, networking and across social channels. Make it memorable. Does it stand out? Is it you?
2?? FACE: Put Your Best Face Forward During the Interview
With your feet on the ground, good posture, and eyes in the camera, they will feel like you are connecting with them. If this is an in-person interview, the same rules apply, except you will be looking directly into their eyes.
?FACE IT
?F
FOCUS your experience stories on what they care about.
A
ASK what problems they are trying to solve.
C
CREATE 3-5 experience stories that illustrate your attitude and accomplishments in the context of their problems.
E
EDIT unnecessary clutter (like copyediting when you write!).
3?? Take a RISK: Be Bold With Your Plan
?The job search requires a plan. Here are a few things to consider as you create your map.
RISK
R
List your work REQUIREMENTS. Make a list. Include non-negotiable and negotiable items that include everything from location to preferred work style.
I
INTERNALIZE your goals. By doing this you gain clarity. Inhabit your inner blueprint and make adjustments as needed.
?S
Be SPECIFIC. Imagine the details and ideas of what you want. It will lead to specific results in your search.
?K
KNOW what you want. Do the research to understand who you are, what you like doing, and where your talents fit.
4?? Combat Ageism. Add CREAM.
With five generations in the workforce and the reality of the 100-year life as attainable by many, people are working longer. Mid-careerists with abundant experience want to bust through the misperception barrier, seeking integration, rather than rejection.
Remember, everything tastes better when you add a bit of cream.

C
COMMUNICATION savvy. Update virtual and in-person communication skills. Communication confidence is memorable.
R
RENOVATE your online image. Your photo on LinkedIn may need update. Invest in a set of professional photos you can use across your social media channels. Get creative with your backgrounds. Get comfortable with video.
E
EDIT your list of experiences; eliminate overwhelm at first glance. On your resume and LinkedIn, limit the years listed as 10-15 years. When you share information in an interview, don’t share everything. Deliver answers based on their needs.
A
AGELESS vocabulary; stay away from tired phrases from the past. Examples: “In my day, Paying your dues, I know I am dating myself here.” Mention Google and search, rather than yellow pages. Reference “online” rather than net or world wide web.
M
MEMORABLE career stories about how you are interested in mentorship and collaborating with others on your team.
5?? Job Skills With 3 Ts
The numbers are out. According to Prudential’s Pulse of the American worker, 53% would switch to a role in a new industry if they could retrain. Yet, it’s not only about the technical skills, there is a treasure trove of power skills you already possess.
Here is your triple-T reminder.
What is TRANSFERABLE? Hint: your power skills are!
How will you TRANSFORM your skills and outlook to accommodate what is needed?
How will you TAP into your skills portfolio when sharing your career stories? How will you TAP into your network to use these skills in your next role?
6?? Job Loss and Setbacks: ACE Your Mindset
Consider the following Confidence Elevators (yup, the thoughts that elevate your confidence) as you prepare for your next career phase:
?Know how to play your ACEs.
?A
ACKNOWLEDGE the sadness and frustration by talking about it. Get it out of your system. This is your way of kicking the confidence busters to the curb.
?C
CAPTURE signature career moments. What were you doing? Write it down. You are tapping into a goldmine of confidence. Savor it. These stories are your interview success stories.
E
EMAIL (text, DM, etc.) friends, family, and colleagues. Ask them to share a couple of your unique talents with you. What makes you different? Capture these in your Confidence Elevator document.
Time to Shuffle and Shift
The super career shuffle is accelerating as the power shift emerges from employer to individual workers. Also included in Prudential’s Pulse of the American Worker Survey is more than 40% of U.S. workers may quit their jobs as the post-pandemic workplace opens up new opportunities.
That's a lot of movement in the workplace!
Yes, the demand for workers is increasing, however, the roles may look different than they did a few years ago.
Whether you get on the retraining bus to change your career or assemble your portfolio into a career story that captures your reinvention, remember the job search tips that will help you attract the right fit role.
