6 Recruitment Industry Blogs You Need to Follow in 2018
There are a ton of recruiting blogs floating around on the web nowadays (and yes your reading another one).
With the persistent success of “content marketing” as a strategy for companies to promote themselves and strengthen their brand, just about every agency and corporation out there has a blog where they talk about their industry.
Obviously, no one has time to sift through hundreds of no-name blogs. And honestly, your typical recruiting firm’s blog is mostly cheaply written fluff content that doesn’t tell you anything you didn’t already know.
You’re a professional. You’ve been doing this a while. And you need something with more meat to it than super basic 101 level blog posts ghostwritten by people who are pretty good writers, but not subject experts by any means.
If you’re looking for content with some real teeth, written by people who actually know what they’re talking about, check out these six awesome recruiting blogs from top industry influencers (in non-ranking order);
Matt Charney - “Snark Attack”
As it’s title suggests, Matt Charney’s blog takes a plain-spoken but incisive approach to recruiting news, tech, and the author’s own ample professional insight.
Charney has a tendency to “go against the grain,” making his blog a breath of fresh air in a sea of samey, cookie-cutter blogs that feel like they were all outsourced through the same content agency.
He’s quick to point out trends that can end up empty and dull, as seen in his recent post poking fun at annual “tech trends” round-up posts, a perennial staple of recruiting and HR industry blogs.
Charney also tackles some pretty unconventional subject matter that you won’t see on a typical recruiting firm’s content marketing oriented corporate blog.
As an example, check out his recent post “Git Up, Git Out: Why Prisons Are Killing Diversity in the Workplace.”
No way that’s a topic you’d expect your typical run of the mill recruiting blog to cover. But Charney’s not afraid to go there. And that’s the kind of thing that makes his blog such a standout in its niche.
Greg Savage: “The Savage Truth”
Greg Savage is a big name in the recruiting world -- and as his last name might suggest, he’s not afraid to “tell it like it is.”
His blog, “The Savage Truth,” is a leading voice in the professional recruitment space. With an educational background in psychology, Savage got into the recruitment space back in the late 1980s, building a pioneering Australian firm called Recruitment Solutions that grew to dominate the national recruiting landscape.
As someone who’s been in the business for decades, Savage has seen the recruiting world grow, change, and evolve over time. He witnessed the birth of the internet in the 1990s, and its meteoric rise in the business world in the late ‘90s and 2000s.
Today, he’s an active investor in new recruitment startups, including Australian company people2people and New Zealand-based Consult Recruitment.
Savage’s blog covers a range of recruiting topics, with a down to earth, “no BS” attitude that sets him apart from the crowd.
Along with his text based content, he also offers webcasts and webinars for recruiters.
When he’s not blogging about the latest developments in recruiting and recruiting tech, Savage also blogs about lifestyle issues, like living your life to the fullest.
Undercover Recruiter
Undercover Recruiter is another down to earth, “tell it like it is” kind of blog, and it’s a must-follow for recruiters who want to stay up to date with the latest industry developments.
This blog actually isn’t just for recruiters themselves. The posts are divided up into three main categories:
- These articles are aimed at companies that want to get the most out of their partnerships with recruiting firms, helping them use recruiters’ unique expertise and industry connections to find the talent they need to further their organizational goals.
- These posts center on tips, tricks, and industry news for professional recruiters.
- Undercover Recruiter also creates content that helps job seekers optimize their resumes and learn how to connect with headhunters that can hook them up with the best opportunities for their particular niches and skill sets.
Much of their content is guest authored by leading recruiters, although they do publish occasional sponsored content from relevant brands.
Tim Sackett - The Tim Sackett Project
Tim Sackett is a down to earth individual that talks in true honesty about everything recruitment and Rectech related, if there is an ATS out there that Tim doesn’t know about its not worth considering.
Tim also writes about every hot topic a HR and recruitment professional wants to read from unions to employer branding and everything inbetween - check out a recent post on humanizing your employer brand!
If you are looking for a blogger that will tell it how it is, provide education and also give you a chuckle now and then; The Tim Sackett Project is one to follow.
Social Hire
Social Hire is a branded blog run by the eponymous social media agency. This in itself gives their blog a unique perspective.
While Social Hire, as a company, is positioned as a social media agency, they have a unique focus on working specifically with recruiting firms. They help recruiters establish a strong, thriving social media presence that gets them in front of the right audiences -- including both employers and job-seeking candidates.
Because they’re focused on the recruiting niche, rather than being a general service agency, their blog focuses on social media outreach for recruiting firms. This makes it one of the most uniquely helpful resources out there for recruiters.
Their content categories include “Recruitment,” “Small Business,” and “Candidate.”
Recruiting Daily
Recruiting Daily has breadth as one of its key features. This well rounded online publication features a range of voices and guest contributors, covering all the latest news and current topics in recruiting.
Their three key categories are “Recruitment Sourcing,” “Tech,” and “Trends.”
They also put out regular podcasts you can listen to on the go.
Like many blogs on this list, Recruiting Daily isn’t a purely journalistic undertaking. They’re actually a company that does provide recruiting services.
