6 Quick Tips for Creating Better Content

If you’re stuck or unsure how to improve your content, this article is for you. I typically am an advocate for building long-term strategies to help you build authority, but this time, I’m focusing on tips you can implement now. These quick yet powerful strategies will improve the quality of your content and help you streamline your creation process, making it more effective and enjoyable.

Tip 1 - Break Down Content Creation Into Manageable Steps

If staring at a blank page makes you anxious, you're not alone. Many people struggle to start from scratch, which can lead to procrastination. Creating a clear and structured process is the best way to overcome this. Break your content creation into smaller, bite-sized tasks:

  1. Ideation
  2. Outlining
  3. Drafting
  4. Editing
  5. Publishing

When you turn content creation into a step-by-step system, it becomes less overwhelming, and you can work on it methodically.

For example, start by brainstorming ideas instead of sitting down to "write a blog post" in one sitting. Then, on another day, create an outline. You can also do all of these steps in one day, but you'll create the best pieces if you do steps 1-3 in one day and return for the first edit after one or two days. This approach not only relieves pressure but also ensures consistency and quality. Discipline and structure will always triumph over waiting for bursts of inspiration.

Tip 2 - Know Your Ideal Customer Inside and Out

The best content speaks directly to your audience, addressing their needs, challenges, and desires. To do this, you need to have a crystal-clear understanding of your ideal customer - for example, by working on a marketing thesis . Without that, you create content in a vacuum, hoping it resonates with someone. But when you know your target audience deeply, you can tailor every piece of content specifically for them.

Start by asking yourself these questions: Who is your ideal customer? What are their pain points? What problems do they need solved? What do they value most? Understanding these key aspects allows you to write content that speaks directly to their experiences and concerns, building trust and engagement over time.

Actionable Tip: Create a mini-profile for your ideal customer. Keep it nearby as a reference when creating new content. Each time you write, ask yourself if what you’re saying speaks to that audience’s needs.

Tip 3 - Define How You Want to Be Perceived

One of the most important but often overlooked aspects of content creation is how you want to be perceived. Your content should position you as an authority in your field, not just as someone who churns out posts for likes or views. Are you the expert? The industry thought leader? The go-to problem-solver? Whatever image you want to project, your content should reinforce that perception.

Your content is more than just words on a screen. It reflects your brand. Whether you’re writing for a blog, social media, or even sending out newsletters, each piece of content is an opportunity to build your reputation. So, take a moment to think about how you want your audience to view you, and make sure your content aligns with that vision.

Actionable Tip: Write down how you want to be perceived by your audience. Ask yourself: Does my current content reflect that? Make any necessary adjustments to ensure that every piece of content consistently reinforces your desired positioning.

Tip 4 - Plan for Repurposing from the Start

Here’s a tip that will save you a ton of time: think about how to repurpose your content before you even create it. Repurposing is more than just copying and pasting—it’s a strategic way to extend the life of a single piece of content by adapting it for different platforms and audiences. By planning ahead, you can turn one blog post into a week’s worth of social media content, a podcast episode, or even a video.

Tip 5 - Connect Your Content to Revenue

Creating content for the sake of content isn’t enough, especially if you're running a business. Your content needs to be directly tied to your revenue-generating efforts. Too many marketers tell me, “I’m posting content, but it’s not bringing in any sales.” When I audit their strategy, the problem is usually that they’re not using their content strategically to drive revenue.

Content should always have a purpose, whether it’s generating leads, nurturing prospects, or positioning you as an authority in your industry. Make sure that each piece of content you create is connected to a larger strategy that drives engagement and sales. Don’t just post and walk away - engage with your audience, follow up, and use the content as a springboard for conversations that can lead to conversions.

Actionable Tip: Take 1 hour this week to follow up with people who have engaged with your content but with whom you last interacted a while ago. Send a friendly message, start a conversation, and see where it leads. This is how content transforms from engagement into business opportunities.

Tip 6 - Always Keep Improving

The best content creators are those who are constantly learning and refining their craft. Don’t be afraid to experiment with new formats, tools, or ideas. Keep an eye on industry trends, read widely, and stay open to feedback. Great content doesn’t happen overnight - it results from continuous improvement and adaptation.

Each piece of content you create is a chance to learn what works and what doesn’t. Pay attention to how your audience reacts, track your metrics, and adjust accordingly. The more you refine your approach, the more effective your content will become over time.

Actionable Tip: Set aside time once a month to review your content performance. What’s resonating with your audience? What’s falling flat? Use this data to tweak your strategy and keep improving.

Bonus Tip - Create a Content Plan to Boost Execution

A solid content plan is one of the most powerful tools in content creation. When you plan your content, you stay organized and ensure that your messaging aligns with your overall goals. A content plan acts as your roadmap, guiding you through the process and helping you stay on track, even when inspiration is low, or deadlines are looming.

Having a clear plan also helps you balance different types of content across various platforms. You can schedule blog posts, social media updates, email newsletters, and videos in a way that creates a cohesive, consistent message. Plus, it eliminates the last-minute scramble to develop ideas, allowing you to focus on quality over quantity.
