The rise of quick commerce (q-commerce) in India is reshaping the retail landscape, and Direct-to-Consumer (D2C) brands are at the forefront of this transformation.

The promise of 10-minute deliveries is not only appealing to consumers but is also opening up new avenues for D2C brands to reach customers, test products, and build their businesses.

And the outcomes are such, that many D2C brands we talk to are witnessing as much as 50-80% of yearly sales growth being driven by this channel.

Very well structured, however the biggest disruption in Qcomm. is curation of products. It is smaller selection compared to clutter on traditional (I think we are already there) e-comm. Inventory led - single seller model further declutters the qcomm platforms giving better visibility to D2C brands. Qcomm is fast becoming medium of choice for new age brands for visibility.

Q-com will become the dominant channel for consumer brands in India, both new and traditional. It disrupts the unplanned purchase from the local shop and hence the potential is much larger than scheduled grocery delivery. The downside for a brand is this. Distribution getting consolidated would mean profit pools would shift from brands to the channel. To maintain the margins, prices would need to go up. Earlier brands in India used to manage the channel mix to deliver overall gross margins. It's going to get harder, almost replicating the US or GCC where distribution is already consolidated. The expansion of QCom into categories with high-return or exchange is yet to be seen from an units economics perspective but FMCG is theirs to dominate.
