6 Questions That Should Be Paid Attention To When Using Inductors

What should be considered when choosing an inductor? When selecting an inductor, consider whether its performance parameters (inductance, rated current, quality factor, etc.) and external dimensions meet the requirements. When actually selecting, you should pay attention to the following six items:

①The amount of inductor should be the same as the circuit requirements; especially the value of the inductance of the coil of the tuning loop should be accurate. When the inductance is too large or too small, the number of turns of the coil can be reduced or increased to meet the requirements for coils with adjustable compassion. When measuring and debugging, the core should be adjusted to the middle position. When the inductance difference is large, it can be solved by string and parallel method.

②The higher the Q value, the better. When the inductance of the two inductors is the same, the smaller the scale value can be selected according to the definition of the Q value (XL/R), or the one with the same value and the larger diameter can be used. 

③The applied voltage and the current passed must not exceed their ratings.

④For inductors with electrical strength requirements, it is necessary to use a variety of packaging materials with high withstand voltage. Generally, inductors with better withstand voltage have better moisture resistance, and resin impregnation, encapsulation and die casting processes can meet the requirements of this item.

⑤Inductor leads or pins are primarily designed for tensile, torsional, solder and solderability. When the components are shipped for more than six months, the solderability test should be repeated to ensure the reliability of the soldering. 

⑥For chip inductors, refer to the pad size of the design when selecting. If a leaded inductor is used, the vertical and horizontal inductors of the same parameters can be interchanged without specifying the installation position and sufficient mounting position.
