6 Questions for Culture

6 Questions for Culture

When building culture, within or with another culture, my observation and experience tells me that there are 6 core areas of questions worthy of Consideration and Discernment.

  • How do we truthfully view our own culture as a department or company or organization currently?
  • How do we view the other side’s (another department, company or organization) culture from where we are right now?
  • How do we think the other side (that other department, company or organization) views our culture from where they are?

  • From the perspective of Character, what virtues do we want and intend to characterize how we roll as a department, company or organization? What might be our core 4, for example?
  • What would they look like in daily practice, real world, real time?

  • What would be the return on such Clarity in terms of being more trustworthy and consistent?

At home, school, work, business, community, and country... how we roll matters. How we roll with others, matters. Getting clear around that... it matters.

In Burn the Boxes, I was as much speaking to clarity of Purpose and defining our own expectations (and internal culture, if you will)... which is part of that Character LENS of Leadership. To walk nobly and serve, we need best to find our most clear intentions around doing so. We best needs find our most intentional countenance and gait.

As we look forward, living present... I think these 6 areas of inquiry (and their honest answers) help us to consciously decide on what matters most and how we walk towards it. That said, even as I write, I think of Panda and her own Congruence... and how she did so unconsciously. She walked her own best self every freakin' day. Naturally.

For me, and any of us looking to build stronger, more united cultures... we must give more conscious thought to these 6 considerations.
