As 2022 ends, it is that time of the year to start your self-reflection and introspection and plan for 2023.?Most of us are wondering how 2023 will be with the Ukrainian war in Europe, high energy prices, food inflation, surges of COVID in China and climate change, extreme weather events like wildfires, flooding and dry and extremely hot weather. Still, it is time to reflect on the year that passed.
Why Do We Need Self-Reflection?
You may wonder why we must self-reflect during challenging times when the future seems uncertain.?Self-reflection is a powerful and sobering process.?It's one of the most effective strategies to accelerate our learning, determine how we operate best and be the best version of ourselves. It can be a painful exercise for some of us, as it obliges us to make a fearless moral inventory of ourselves and be honest and authentic.
6 Questions That Will Change Your Self-Reflection
This is my process, and I'm sharing it with you as you might find it helpful to you.
I start my reflection time by taking at least 60 minutes in a quiet, comfy place. Where I feel at peace and tranquil. I turn off my cellphone and my notifications. During this process, I handwrite my reflections - I use a pen and a notepad, or you can use an iPad and a Magic Pencil. The essential is that you handwrite. The importance of handwriting is documented. It creates a commitment to yourself, and you become aware of what you are, in fact, writing. It is more accountable than writing with a keyboard, on a laptop, a tablet or a computer.
As I start my introspection and reflections, my thoughts wander,?asking meaningful questions to myself. Zach Mercurio's questions are pertinent and provocative, which is precisely what we need when we do self-reflection. These are the questions suggested when you do your yearly reflection:

Bring It All Together.
You might wonder why I say self-reflection instead of your yearly performance evaluation. Your work is not your life. Your work does not define you. You only live to perform at high levels some of the time. You live to grow and develop, and you can consistently achieve this if you reflect and understand what you have learned from victories and failures.
This is why year-end is the perfect time to introspect and self-reflect on the year that went by and plan the year to come. For some is a painful and tortuous process as you have to be honest with yourself and authentic. Own it.
Do you do year-end self-reflection reviews? Which type of questions do you ask yourself? Which process do you use?
