6 People You Must Follow on LinkedIn
Paul Sagoo OBE
Founder of The Asian Awards, Refine Events, British Science & British Photography Awards and CEO of Lemon Group International.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a small business owner, a budding entrepreneur or international business mogul, sometimes you could always use a bit of advice. How to grow your business, achieving a work-life balance, general global trends, LinkedIn is full of industry leaders more than happy to point you in the right direction – and I’m here to point you straight to them.
So without further ado here are, in my humble opinion, those people every prospective business titan should follow.
As a small business standing out from the crowd can seem like a futile task; Dave Kerpen however knows much better. As a spokeperson for the small business community he understands the challenges faced by owners all over the world and, as his own Likeable Business has illustrated, how to grow in such competition. His New York Times bestseller Likeable Social Media: How to Delight Your Customers, Create an Irresistible Brand & Be Generally Amazing on Facebook (& Other Social Networks) is well worth picking up if you haven’t already though he also regularly shares his expertise over LinkedIn (& other social networks).
If you missed him on entrepreneurial pitching show Dragon’s Den you’ve probably seen James Caan’s tweets. He’s one of the most followed business people in the world and it’s not all that hard to see why. TV appearances aside, his tips on recruitment are some that any business big or small should take heed of. That advice staddles both sides of the fence too; as well as hiring, Caan’s advice can get you hired. Take his notes on how to conduct yourself in an interview to heart and you may well be the one handing out words of wisdom.
As arguably the greatest serial entrepreneur alive anyone with an interest in business should be following the Microsoft founder on every avenue available. Given that only a fraction of his success can be attributed to the tech company, to call Mr. Gates experienced is a slanderous level of understatement. He’s simply an astounding businessman, one that seems to build success in whatever he turns his hand to. As well as being a living, breathing inspiration to millions, Gates also happens to have fine taste in literature. Follow him on LinkedIn and his recommendations are without fail works worth investing your precious hours into.
We’ve all wondered why we do what we do once in a while, our thinking turning more grey clouds than blue sky and silver linings forgotten. Tony Robbins however is one of the best motivational speakers in the world; if there’s anyone that can help change your way of thinking and help you get the best out of what you do, it’s him. His seminars have been attended by up to 10,000 people at a time and there are more testimonials than you can count about how he’s changed lives. He doesn’t just inspire introspection but action; he asks you to stop second-guessing, stop deluding yourself and make the changes you want in life.
If any businesswoman out there is in need of a role model, look no further than Ariana Huffington. As Editor-in-Chief of the Huffington Post her knowledge and commentary on current affairs is second-to-none, not to mention her business acumen. There’s also plenty more to her than her eponymous Post. Her books promote achieving that healthy work-life balance and illustrate how that can make you better at what you do. Her focus on solving social problems is far wider-reaching than just the world of business – in this day and age it’s vital for every aspect of every industry.
Well I had to, didn’t I? In all seriousness though, I like to think of myself as an influencer you should definitely follow. Over the past seven years I’ve gotten to know some of the greatest achievers in the world of business though my founding of the now world-renowned Asian Awards. It’s allowed me to catalogue what makes business and the people behind them great, information I want to share here. Without pulling punches, I pride myself on doing things just like this – promoting individuals that are a genuine help and inspiration to the world of business.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

8 年Well, I think all lists should be seven points and then you could add Gary Vaynerchuk. If being "small business owner, a budding entrepreneur or international business mogul, sometimes you could always use a bit of advice. How to grow your business, achieving a work-life balance, general global trends, " He not only talks about all that, gives advice on all that, healso ACT on it in real life.
