6 months until content success w. Saila Marin
How do you motivate people in your team to create content?
It's a question I hear in discussions with anyone in a medium-sized organization.
Saila Marin, Growth Lead at Laavu Performance (a pioneering startup in psychological coaching for founders and business leaders) had a great solution.
First, the company created a new environment, calling it the "Content Lab", highlighting the experimental nature of the work. Then, she invited her colleagues to join their "Thought Leadership Pilot". Again, it highlights that it's experimental. Then asked her team who would be interested, and asked them to apply to join the pilot.
(know that he colleagues are performance coaches so they are maybe more competitive than your average person).
Out of the applications, she picked the five best ones, and supported them in getting them started with their content production. Then, after six months, they evaulated the success of the program and the participants, and adjusted the program and the participants again.
I thought this approach was genious. Making an experimental environment and then having an application process (creating supply and demand tension) was great. Then it allows for testing and also allows for the participants to try and fail. And as expected, some people did better than others. And then the efforts can be re-directed accordingly, creating new industry rock stars for your company.
