6 moans about LinkedIn

6 moans about LinkedIn

I love LinkedIn. No, seriously I do. I’m permanently on it. It’s where I get the majority of my industry news, industry gossip, and networking. It doesn’t mean it doesn’t frustrate me though…

When I started moaning about it the other day, a pal of mine suggested I write an article to get my moans of my chest. So here we find ourselves. 6 things annoying me on LinkedIn:

  1. Please stop being “I am honoured and humbled to blah blah blah”. Just say: “Well done me. I’m great. I have been awarded 39th position in some form of league table that may or may not be good” (to yourself, only). P.S. I will allow corporate accounts to recognise industry awards – this is ok – keep up the award-winning work.
  2. Stop with the “we are putting patients at the centre of what we are doing”. For a pharma company, this is embarrassing to say out loud. Just stop. It should be ALL you do.
  3. Do connect with me (or others), but don’t then send me (or others) a message immediately. Oh, and by the way, make sure you have looked at my profile. My two recent connections have asked me if they can talk to me about a. Stacking shelving units for factories b. Automatic payment services – neither of which are of any interest. It’s just lazy selling.
  4. Don’t use automated messages saying “Congrats” – if you genuinely want to say something to someone, personalise it. Make the person believe you mean it.
  5. Listen to Mark Ritson. If you don’t know who he is, find out. Follow him on LinkedIn. Do proper marketing.
  6. Remember to take people out of your feed without disconnecting from them (they then won’t know) if their content is of no value / boring / riddled with typos. I must do this more. It makes my news feed better.

I think that will do for now. Cathartic moan over. Thanks for listening. I am both honoured and humbled you have got to the end of the 364 words. I think this could lead to a Series of “6 moans about…” or a holiday.

I enjoyed this a lot! Maybe it’s an experience thing? My pet hate is the use of the word Omni-Channel marketing. It usually translates as “we ignore our customers in more ways than most”
