6 MISTAKES TO AVOID AT WORK
Working in the office is not as a simple process at all as you may think. It means daily communication between colleagues, dealing with lots of work and of course time-management.
Workplace mistakes are happening. More importantly, they happen to everyone, from the most junior employee to even the CEO. It’s just a reality of professional life. However, it is possible to avoid making them. Some workplace mistakes are worse than others. Here are 6 of them that are probably under your control, if they are not, you should avoid making them at all costs.
Multi-tasking too much.
Being a hard worker is good quality, but if you are working on too many projects at once, you risk to end up not accomplishing much at all. You can simply lose focus while doing many things at the same time. It is better to focus on your true priorities. Employers are looking for people who are capable of managing many tasks but also prioritizing them by managing their time. Concentration on priorities is essential. Managing your time, you will never meet any deadlines.
Complaining about work.
Whether you are talking to your colleagues in the office or writing on your social media, you shouldn’t complain about your work. If you don’t like your job or you have some misunderstanding with your manager, it is not in your interests to make other people know about it, because you can get even more problems if it gets to your manager. Instead of complaining, think about what makes you upset and try to improve it. You can also talk with your manager about your talents that you can develop on different other projects and make a company grow.
Overworking
If your job is monotonous or chaotic, you need constant energy to stay focused — which can lead to stress, fatigue and even job burnout. Whatever the cause, job burnout can affect your physical and mental health. Think carefully if you have got job burnout. Avoid it before it is too late. Have some rest during your pauses, go out for a small walk near your office or have a coffee outside with your colleagues. These small things can help to destress and get distracted for a while to work better.
Speaking foreign language
If you are a foreigner and you are working in an international or multinational company you should not make this mistake, which is very common. It can be extremely annoying for your colleagues to hear a group of people talking in a foreign language. They will not understand you which can make them think that you are talking about them. Speak the language that everybody in your company speaks to avoid misunderstanding.
Being late
Respect your working hours. Arriving a few minutes late appears to be harmless, especially if the reason justifies it. Yet a regular skipping the first quarter of morning work can bring a lot of bad consequences. It is strictly forbidden to come to work late, to leave it early or to have several lunch breaks. It may cause many problems.
Getting too personal with coworkers
It is good to want to be friendly at work, but you also need to have a healthy sense of boundaries around the people whose perception of you can determine your professional success. Don’t get too personal with your colleagues if you are not sure you can do it. If you want people in the office to think of you as professional, competent and organized, keep your private life for yourself.
Mistakes can be valuable only if you learn from them. The more you can improve yourself, by learning from your mistakes, the more you can show your leadership potential.
