This year flew by and had a lot of ups and downs, especially in the business world. As we head into the holiday season and knock on 2023’s door, we encourage you to take a minute (or 5) to reflect on 2022 and put together the learnings that you can take into the new year.
Here’s a list of things Syrup has learned as a business – maybe it’ll help spark your own.
- The power of a shift in mindset.?Despite the circumstances and things happening around us, we can look at things in different ways. This year, we shifted from fear to fearless, from “this is a challenge” to “this is an opportunity and chance to learn,” from loss to space for something new, and finally, from conflict to seeing different perspectives. You get to choose how you look at things, and there’s a lot of power in that.
- The greatest ideas and solutions often come from the people outside of the situation.?Sometimes we’re too close to an issue to see clearly, but pulling in others can help. Bring in new perspectives, lean on your team, and co-collaborate with others.?
- Celebrate each other and highlight small wins.?Sometimes I think we underestimate the power of positive reinforcement. In challenging circumstances, celebrating each other and our small victories can superpower the culture and reenergize your team. Celebrate it all.
- Being in-person matters. Nothing will ever replace the power of face-to-face conversations. We’re starting to see the balance of what’s needed, with both our team and our clients. Find what works for you, but know that being together (not just on a computer screen) makes a big difference.
- Meet your audience where they are.?Physically, yes, but more importantly with your messaging. What are the challenges they are dealing with right now? Focus more on your audience’s problems than your solutions. Know what they’re dealing with at the present moment. The more you can speak to that, the better.
- Provide boundaries and flexibility.?Our world (both at a macro and micro level) has evolved significantly and no matter the season of life you are in, we all have seen what it’s like to have flexibility. It’s now a major benefit and competitive advantage. There’s a desire and demand by employees for the flexibility to do both life and work. Respect their boundaries.?
