6 Lessons from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
It’s been 3 weeks since the release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. For those who have not watch it, I’d recommend it! Leave your expectation at the door. This post includes some spoilers for this movie, so proceed with caution if you’ve not yet seen it. There are some interesting learnings i gain from this movie.
When you want to do something, do it quick.
The guards who were supposed to kill Indiana Jones stopped when he started telling a story to distract them. In life, focus on what you are supposed to do, don’t be distracted by other people and their story.?
Know who is the main driver.
In the scene where there’s two officer that wrongly enter the car that was driven by Jones, the eventually died. In an organization, we must know very clearly who is the one driving the organization. Sometimes aside from the CEO, there may be other important key players. In order to thrive in your workplace, you must know the driving force behind the organization.?
Great leaders spurs commitment.
When Indiana Jones wanted to go after Helena Shaw for the stolen dial, he had friends who he can reach out to for help. They are all people that he have helped before.?
This is a great example of how great leaders inspire commitment. When you become a servant leader to others, you win their hearts and their commitment.
Work on helping those you lead. Discover what they need to succeed. Then help them chase it.
The more you help others, the more committed to you they will be.

You will always have something to offer.
Indiana Jones and Helena Shaw weren’t a team in the beginning. But because they each have something to contribute to reach the end goal, hence they work as a team. Everyone has their own value. You need to know what is your value, what you can offer to your family, your company and the society.?
Don’t believe everything you see.
The second piece of the dial was concealed inside a candle artpiece. The instruction given on candle is meant to mislead the reader. The real clue is the gold piece that was concealed within the candle. In life, there is a lot of things on the surface that may lead you to the wrong path. You need to be very careful in order to identify what is right for you.?
Trust the expert.
When Dr. Voller was calculating the coordinates to go back in time, he got the coordinates wrong. When Indiana Jones tried to tell him that the calculation was wrong, he didn’t listen so they ended up in 213 B.C. during the Siege of Syracuse. When you are faced with a situation that you are not sure, always listen to the experts. This will prevent you from making mistakes and sometimes deadly mistakes.?
