6 Easy Ways to Be an Unforgettable Podcast Guest

Podcast guesting is a brilliant marketing strategy used by savvy women entrepreneurs because it allows you to utilize other people's platforms (O.P.P.) to consistently share your expertise, provide value, grow your email list, gain qualified business leads, and promote your products, services, events, books and more to thousands of listeners around the world without much hassle!

Making sure you are an unforgettable guest is how you keep getting invited (and invited back!) on podcasts again and again!

Here are 6 smart tips on how to be an unforgettable podcast guest, set yourself up for success, and confidently dazzle during your interview!

Plug in early. Open Skype, Zoom or the podcaster's preferred recording platform at least 15 minutes prior to your interview to make sure you're connected. Don't waste precious interview time figuring out avoidable technical difficulties.

Remember: Audio is everything. Almost nothing means more to podcasters than quality audio. Make sure you're in a quiet place during your interview. And although you don't have to spend a fortune, invest in a quality microphone that plugs into your laptop or desktop. (Some even plug into your phone.) My favorite? The ATR 2100. Others love the Logitech H390 headset. (Both are available on Amazon.com for less than $100).

Do your research. Even if you're appearing on podcasts that have a similar niche or target audience, every host has a different style. Do your research. Listen to snippets from a couple of recent episodes some time before your interview so you don't "go in cold." You can also ask your host to share questions she might ask or general topics in advance, which will help you prepare.

Stick it to them. Put a Post-It note with your host's first name spelled phonetically in front of you during the interview so that 1) you don't forget it, and 2) you don't mispronounce it. Using someone's name (and pronouncing it correctly) during conversation creates an authentic connection and naturally builds a rapport with them.

Give it away for freebie. Podcast guesting offers you a great opportunity to build your email list with new qualified leads! The best way to entice people to go to your web site and sign up for your list is to offer a freebie (i.e., an item of valuable information or content created by you, that will be of support to them), that they can access by going to your site and entering their email address. Use a pop up or a simple, vanity URL (such as girlonpodcastgift.com) so it's easy for people to remember.

SMILE! You'd be surprised what a difference it makes in your voice. :)
