6 Easy Ways to Be More Productive When Working from Home

#3 Keep your shoes on!
It’s 6 pm, and I’m winding down a normal day that began at 5 am and was jam-packed with outreach, phone calls, podcast interviews, writing, reading, editing, and more. I got a lot done. I was incredibly productive.
Below are the 6 tactics I use to maximize productivity while working at my apartment every Monday to Friday. Try these out, and I guarantee you will get so much more out of your days working from home.
1. Stay off the couch
It’s one thing to cozy up and do some work, but it is a whole other to get too comfortable to the point where you are ready to go to sleep. Save the couch for relaxation time. Try to work from a desk or the kitchen table instead.
2. Turn the TV off
Yes, you are at home, and yes, you may just consider it background noise, but the TV can be a major distraction whether you realize it or not. Listen to some light music if you’d like, but other than that, treat your home like an office and make sure the TV is only turned on when the day is over!
3. Keep your shoes on
There’s something about keeping your shoes on that will make the day feel less lethargic. If you take your shoes off, you’re more likely to put them up on a chair and get back in a position of comfort, so make sure to stay uncomfortable and give this a try!
4. Dress like you mean it
I know we all want to just sit around and lounge out in our pajamas all day, but this will not put us in the productive working mindset we need. Wear a real outfit and the work will flow much easier.
5. Have different rooms for different activities
This makes your home feel more like an office setting. Take your calls in your bedroom (but don’t sit on the bed), do your writing from a desk, read in the kitchen, and little by little, the house starts to feel more like a place of business!
6. Block off access to your bed
One of the main drawbacks of working from home is the ability to stay all warm and snuggly in your bed. To circumvent this conundrum, just make your bed inaccessible! Put laundry on it, lock your bedroom door. Just make sure not to hop back in it until the day is over!
Whether you’re an entrepreneur, a creative, or an employee at a 9–5, there will be days where you work from home. In order to ensure the day is filled with actual work, try the methodologies above. I promise you, these simple tips will dramatically enhance the amount of work you can produce!

4 年I actually prefer to only work from my office. I go down to my kitchen for lunch if I can and then when I done with work for the day I close my office door. For me, it helps to keep work and home a little more separate in a physical sense.

4 年Great tips, Jordan. For me, one thing that also really helps is blocking my time. It helps to have scheduled breaks and time dedicated to certain projects to avoid working nonstop. Breaks are just as important as work time ??

4 年I rarely work from home - and probably won't be working from home even during all of this unless it gets really bad here. But I have a home office set up, so as long as I'm in there, I'm productive.
