6 Digital Marketing Myths You Should Ignore

6 Digital Marketing Myths You Should Ignore

Running a small business is not a simple task, especially with so much false information out there. For this reason, you may make a mistake or two along the way. Despite what many of us believe, mistakes aren’t the enemy we make them out to be. In fact, they’re a great opportunity to learn. That being said, some can cause lots of damage, costing time and money you can’t afford to lose. To avoid harming your company, here are six digital marketing myths you should ignore.

1. High Traffic Solves Everything

Although traffic is certainly important, don’t be fooled into thinking that it is the answer to all of your problems. Not all traffic is created equal, and some is just no good at all. Bot traffic, for example, is generally viewed as bad, as it helps in no way and distorts your view of what is happening on your site. Traffic from areas you don’t service also does little to help you sell more.

2. Mobile Users Don’t Convert

Customers may be less likely to go through long checkout processes on their phones, but that doesn’t mean that you should count mobile users out completely. You MUST have a mobile-friendly version of your site, shopping cart, and any forms consumers need to fill out. If you don’t, you will alienate a whole group of people and won’t have any successful conversions.

3. SEO Is Completely Dead

Search engine optimisation or SEO is far from dead. In fact, it may be even more important than ever. For this reason, you shouldn’t ignore your SEO marketing strategy. If you’re not confident with this approach, you can invest in help, by hiring a freelancer or paying for SEO services from DoLocal. However you go about it, done right, this can increase traffic from all over the world.

4. Everyone Hates Marketing Emails

You may absolutely despise marketing emails, but you shouldn’t allow your own opinions to cloud your decisions. Although poorly executed email marketing can waste time and money, that doesn’t mean that the tactic as a whole doesn’t work. As long as you do it the right way, by asking people to opt-in to your email list, there’s no reason why it can’t benefit your business.

5. Negative Comments Are Bad

No one likes to see negative reviews of something that they have worked so hard to create, but that doesn’t mean that you should ignore or delete these comments. Instead, take the time to respond to each one, apologising for your faults and addressing any concerns. If you make changes to your business because of these comments, make sure that you share this too.

6. It’s All About Tech

Never make the mistake of assuming traditional marketing is a thing of the past. Of course, technology is a major part in digital marketing, but you should still merge it with existing practices, using these old techniques as a foundation for your online marketing efforts. The internet is unpredictable, so it always helps to maintain a balance between it and old approaches.

Don’t let these digital marketing myths above holding you back from fully benefiting from the online world.

Some of the old techniques never stopped working. Such as direct mail. In fact response rates I've seen are higher than I remember them. You stand out because people receive little postal promotions now
