6 Common Misconceptions with RPA Implementation

Robotic Process Automation (RPA) is a term that probably both you and I have come across tons of times. It is a term that reaps the benefits of increased productivity, better level of quality, improved customer satisfaction and reduced errors. However, when we put the tools into action, we are faced with a number of complications...

How can such a great tool create a pattern of mistakes?

I want to share with you this fantastic article by Graham Turnbull (Reinvigoration) as he highlights 6 common mistakes and misconceptions to avoid with RPA implementation.

Coinciding with a lot of what people say, Graham also mentioned that things aren't always perfect with RPA; that their is a patter of mistakes across organisations. As he puts it:

we wouldn’t expect a diesel car filled with petrol to race out of the filling station, so why are we expecting RPA to be the best fix for all of our operational challenges?

When talking with Operational Excellence Professionals, he highlights 6 of the most common RPA mistakes & misconceptions to help you fill your RPA tank, because ... you might just be filling one that does not fit your purpose.

Although all 6 are key, the following 3 are the ones I find most common across industries

  1. All activities can be automated
  2. Benefit from automating all processes at once
  3. RPA journey finishes at implementation stage

When reading this, it all might seem quite 'basic', yet it is what we view as 'basic' that gets us in a mess. The core of it all is understanding what should be automated and when. Graham goes into each of the 6 stages in details and provides you with further tips.

Check out his article and let me know your thoughts!

Particularly in the HR world, it's not realised that you can hang an RPA module on to your existing software, be it legacy or current. Fear of the unknown, as usual!! Process maps are key to the planning of this and even selection activities, and that's a cornerstone of my work with clients. Great article,.

Thanks Aya! So nice of you to share and add your thoughts.

I think a lot of people are intimidated by the tech - hold your nose, jump in and you'll soon be wondering why you didn't do it earlier.?
