6 benefits of an uncluttered work space
I’ve been guilty of working in a messy and cluttered workspace in the past. It’s not until I had a good clearout that I realised the negative effect it has on your productivity and wellbeing.
Here are 6 benefits I’ve seen as a result of clearing and tidying:
- Improved confidence. Decluttering can make you feel more confident in making decisions – I completed tasks more efficiently with less time procrastinating.
- Decluttering energises you. When you make quick fire decisions it gives you the feeling of getting things done and it certainly made me work more quickly.
- Enhanced wellbeing. When our workspace is chaotic it can create a feeling of anxiety and a scattered approach to work. Creating space and room to work can reduce stress and anxiety. It certainly unclutters the mind!
- Improved ideas. I’m a scribbler – it’s where I get my ideas from. Having space to lay out an A3 pad or a flipchart and post it notes and go for it with marker pens gave me room to do what works for me.
- Improved health. You’d be amazed at the bugs and bacteria that breeds on your workspace! A clear workspace means you can clean everything far more effectively!
- Positive impressions. There is nothing more embarrassing than scrambling around in front of a colleague or visitor trying to find something!
“Clutter is the physical manifestation of unmade decisions fueled by procrastination” - Christina Scalese

5 年Great article. I have to have a tidy desk otherwise it drives me crazy. Great book to read is, “The Power of Less” by Leo Babauta. The book gives great ideas on how to declutter your entire house which is just what you need if you are a work from home mother.
