THE 5X5 CHECKLIST FOR LEADERS

THE 5X5 CHECKLIST FOR LEADERS

It’s very difficult to be a leader. If you are one of them, you know that. There are hundreds of urgent things you have to care about every day, so it is very easy to lose sight of the important stuff.

I help leaders focus on that important stuff so they and their teams can perform at their best. They achieve clarity and purpose while reducing their stress levels. Every case is different, and my sessions with them are tailor-made, but some points are helpful for all kinds of leaders.

Here you have my list with those points. I call it the 5x5 Checklist For Leaders.

This is how to use it:

  • Take one point.
  • Change it into a "Do I" question. "Have a Goal" would be: "Do I have a goal?"
  • Answer the question.
  • If the answer is no, you have work to do ;-)

The best thing about the list is that you don’t have to work on all points at the same time. Just working on one point will make a huge difference in your leadership. Share it if you find it useful.

THE 5X5 CHECKLIST FOR LEADERS

YOUR STRATEGY

1. Have a goal.

2. Track your steps toward your goal.

3. Save time to think.

4. Never be trapped. Create options.

5. Focus 100% on just one thing. Then the next.

YOUR IMAGE

6. Be neat.

7. Dress a little better than the people around you.

8. Shoulders back. Chin up.

9. Smile.

10. Make every space you enter yours.

YOUR HEALTH

11. Sleep more than you do now.

12. Be fit.

13. Eat healthily.

14. Mind your caffeine intake. Reduce alcohol drastically. Don’t take drugs.

15. Avoid people who steal your energy.

YOUR BEHAVIOR

16. Say something they don’t expect.

17. Ask more questions. Let them come up with the answers.

18. Listen intensely.

19. Never get mad.

20. Don’t gossip.

YOUR LEADERSHIP

21. People come first. Data comes second.

22. Train your team to do the work without you.

23. Don’t let rotten apples in your team.

24. Reward the behavior you want to be repeated.

25. Leave your prejudices at the door.

Great and structured approach

Point 4: create options AND be ready to accept Plan B. In the moment you are happy with Plan B (or even Plan C, D) then your more relaxed to listen carefully while you step forward on Plan A

Great post Carmen! The only difficult one for me, from the list, would be the coffee!
