The 5th 'P' (What they don't teach you at Harward)
We, in our family, generally procure our daily requirements of vegetables from the nearest farmers' market, as we would get farm-fresh vegetables, at a cheaper rate there, than the local retailer. But, then, on certain days, when we could not go to the farmers' market, we had to get our daily dose of vegetables from the local retailer or from the mobile vegetable vendor.
On one Sunday morning, when I was venturing out for my daily walking, my wife asked me get a few vegetables for the day, while coming back from walking.
While I was returning home after my walking exercise, I stopped this mobile vegetable vending lady, whom I happen to see every day, during my daily walking exercise. On almost all days, I had seen her, selling a good lot varieties of vegetables, which she brings from her own farm, in a nearby village.
But, on this Sunday, when I stopped her to buy a few vegetables, I was surprised to see that she was stocking only a very few 'spicy' vegetables, such as small Onion, big Onion, Garlic, Cauliflower, Green Chillies, etc., and not the usual stock of fresh green vegetables.
I asked her in surprise: "Arey Amma! What happened? Why you haven't brought your regular vegetables today?"
She told humbly: 'Sirji! Today is Sunday and most of the households in this locality would opt to cook non-vegetarian food. Thus, my fresh green vegetables wouldn't sell here today and would go waste. That's why, on Sundays, I only bring those vegetables which are generally added as an ingredient in non-vegetarian food preparations'.
And, thus she taught me the fifth 'P' - PERIOD - which they did not teach me in my business school.

4 年Well said Shiva! I remember seeing one woman selling "????????????" one day in Chennai near a temple and one Cow with a calf was standing nearby. I realized later only that the cow and the calf belonged to the same lady and she was earning double- once by selling the leaves and second by the same leaves being fed to her own cow & calf!! These people are pretty smart!!
