5MM #46: Life Is a Video Game—Here Are the Cheat Codes

Happy Monday-

For those new to the newsletter, the "5 Minute Monday" is 3 quick-hitters (hence the name 5 minute...) designed to get you thinking early in the week around?Marketing, Personal Development, and Learning.

But first, a few words from someone much smarter than myself...

“Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems, wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenge, wish for more wisdom.” - Jim Rohn

?? Marketing

I A/B tested 103 YouTube titles last month

While this is an excellent thread for YouTubers, there are other great lessons to pull here about what gets people's attention. These can be used on Twitter threads, email subject lines, TikTok titles, etc.

Here are 3 that stood out to me (FYI - there are a ton, and I encourage you to check them all out):

1.?Question vs. Statement Statements?did better than questions in 4 out of 5 tests. They didn’t win by a lot though — an average of 8%.

Ex:

“Is This Brooklyn's Best KEPT FOOD SECRET? (6.5%

“Brooklyn's Best KEPT FOOD SECRET (6.8% CTR)

2.?“How To” vs. List In 3 tests?of “how to” vs. list titles, list titles had a higher CTR in all 3.

Ex:

“How To Make YOUR Videos Look CINEMATIC” (1.90% CTR)

“5 Tips To Make YOUR videos Cinematic” (2.51% CTR)

3.?Negativity?You might not like it, but making your titles more negative might be one of the easiest ways to increase your CTR.

Ex:

“How Billionaire Jeff Bezos Spends All His Money” (2.30% CTR)

“Dumb Things Jeff Bezos Wastes His Billions On” (3.13% CTR)

?? Learning

The New Science of Learning

Pulling in a book for this one. I had never heard of the 1st and 2nd editions but there?was a lot of great insights in this one

When I read a book and want to learn from it or absorb as much as possible, I buy the audiobook and either Kindle or physical book and listen/read simultaneously.

This excerpt explains why it works so well.

"The more ways you engage with something that you are learning—such as listening, talking, reading, writing, reviewing, or thinking about the material or skill—the stronger the connections in your brain become and the more likely the new learning will become a more permanent memory."

Dan Kennedy's Magnetic Marketing Podcast

Mindset & Mastery

These old Dan Kennedy interviews and calls are awesome.

A lot of them are from his "Diamond" member call recordings which cost a pretty penny to be a part of. In this episode, he brings on Chris Cardell insists that if you want to be at the top of your industry, you can't afford not to develop the mental tools needed for a bulletproof belief in yourself and what you can accomplish.

This one excerpt really struck a chord with me:

There are 3 ways for going for anything in life.

1.?Wanting something: This is better than not wanting something but doesn't get you very far

2.?You have clear targets and goals: I want to achieve X in my business

3.?Intent: You are going to do it, you are going to achieve it. Say for instance you are swimming at the bottom of the swimming pool and something grabs your ankle, how much ferocity and determination and strength, what is your intent going to be to get away from that grip and to freedom? That is the same for entrepreneurs...if you don't have that intent, that absolute ferocity it won't happen.
