5G WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY

5G WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY

What is 5G technology?

The 5G network will also simplify mobility, with seamless open roaming capabilities between cellular and Wi-Fi access. Mobile users can stay connected as they move between outdoor wireless connections and wireless networks inside buildings without user intervention or the need for users to reauthenticate.?

5G Wireless Technology is now the latest cellular technology that will greatly increase the speed of wireless networks among other things.0 So the data speed for wireless broadband connections using 5G would be at a maximum of around 20 Gbps. Contrasting that with the peak speed of 4G which is 60 Mbps, that’s a lot! Moreover, 5G will also provide more bandwidth and advanced antenna technology which will result in much more data transmitted over wireless systems.

The new Wi-Fi 6 wireless standard shares traits with 5G, including improved performance. Wi-Fi 6 radios can be placed where users need them to provide better geographical coverage and lower cost. Underlying these Wi-Fi 6 radios is a software-based network with advanced automation.

5G technology should improve connectivity in underserved rural areas and in cities where demand can outstrip today's capacity with 4G technology. New 5G networks will also have a dense, distributed-access architecture and move data processing closer to the edge and the users to enable faster data processing.

How does 5G technology work?

5G technology will introduce advances throughout network architecture. 5G New Radio, the global standard for a more capable 5G wireless air interface, will cover spectrums not used in 4G. New antennas will incorporate technology known as massive MIMO (multiple input, multiple output), which enables multiple transmitters and receivers to transfer more data at the same time. But 5G technology is not limited to the new radio spectrum. It is designed to support a converged, heterogeneous network combining licensed and unlicensed wireless technologies. This will add bandwidth available for users.

5G architectures will be software-defined platforms, in which networking functionality is managed through software rather than hardware. Advancements in virtualization, cloud-based technologies, and IT and business process automation enable 5G architecture to be agile and flexible and to provide anytime, anywhere user access. 5G networks can create software-defined subnetwork constructs known as network slices. These slices enable network administrators to dictate network functionality based on users and devices.

There are basically 2 main components in the 5G Wireless Technology systems i.e. the Radio Access Network and the Core Network.

1. Radio Access Network: The Radio Access Network mainly includes 5G Small Cells and Macro Cells that form the crux of 5G Wireless Technology as well as the systems that connect the mobile devices to the Core Network. The 5G Small Cells are located in big clusters because the millimeter wave spectrum can only travel over short distances. These Small Cells complement the Macro Cells that are used to provide more wide-area coverage. Macro Cells use MIMO (Multiple Inputs, Multiple Outputs) antennas which have multiple connections to send and receive large amounts of data simultaneously. This means that more users can connect to the network simultaneously.

2. Core Network: The Core Network manages all the data and internet connections for the 5G Wireless Technology. And a big advantage of the 5G Core Network is that it can integrate with the internet much more efficiently and it also provides additional services.

How fast is 5G?

5G speed tops out at 10 gigabits per second

According to communication principles, the shorter the frequency, the larger the bandwidth.

Using shorter frequencies for 5G networks is why 5G can be faster. This high-band 5G spectrum provides the expected boost in speed and capacity, low latency, and quality.

However,5G download speed may differ widely by area.

According to the February 2020 issue of Fortune Magazine, average 5G speed measures done in Q3/Q4 2019 range from:

  • 220 megabits per second in Las Vegas,?
  • 350 in New York,
  • 380 in Los Angeles,
  • 450 in Dallas,
  • to 550 Chicago,
  • and over 950 in Minneapolis and Providence, approximately.

That's 10 to 50 times more than 4G LTE.?

5G speed can vary widely based on your proximity to a 5G tower and the surrounding environment. Close to a 5G tower with a clear line of sight, you could experience speeds surpassing IMO (Multiple Inputs, Multiple Outputs) antennas which have multiple connections to send and receive large amounts of data simultaneously. This means that more users can connect to the network simultaneously.

2. Core Network: The Core Network manages all the data and internet connections for the 5G Wireless Technology. And a big advantage of the 5G Core Network is that it can integrate with the internet much more efficiently and it also provides additional services.

5G speed can vary widely based on your proximity to a 5G tower and the surrounding environment. Close to a 5G tower with a clear line of sight, you could experience speeds surpassing 1000 Mbps—nearly tenfold the rates of 4G. However, these speeds can diminish as the distance from the tower increases or if obstacles interfere with the signal.

What is the real-world impact of 5G technology?

5G technology will not only usher in a new era of improved network performance and speed but also new connected experiences for users.

In healthcare, 5G technology and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity will enable patients to be monitored via connected devices that constantly deliver data on key health indicators, such as heart rate and blood pressure. In the auto industry, 5G combined with ML-driven algorithms will provide information on traffic, accidents, and more; vehicles will be able to share information with other vehicles and entities on roadways, such as traffic lights. These are just two industry applications of 5G technology that can enable better, safer experiences for users.

What are the Benefits of 5G Wireless Technology?

5G Wireless Technology will not only enhance current mobile broadband services, but it will also expand the world of mobile networks to include many new devices and services in multiple industries from retail to education to entertainment with much higher performances and lower costs.

Some of the benefits of 5G in various domains are given here:

  • 5G will make our smartphones much smarter with faster and more uniform data rates, lower latency and cost-per-bit and this, in turn, will lead to the common acceptance of new immersive technologies like Virtual Reality or Augmented Reality.
  • 5G will have the convenience of ultra-reliable, low latency links that will empower industries to invest in more projects which require remote control of critical infrastructure in various fields like medicine, aviation, etc.
  • 5G will lead to an Internet of Things revolution as it has the ability to scale up or down in features like data rates, power, and mobility which is perfect for an application like connecting multiple embedded sensors in almost all devices.

What is 5G capable of?

5G will do?much more than significantly improve your network connection. It provides?new opportunities,?enabling?us to deliver groundbreaking solutions?that?reach across society.?

Imagine billions of connected devices gathering and sharing information in real time to reduce road accidents; or life-saving applications that can take flight thanks to lag-free guaranteed connections; or production lines so predictive they can prevent interruptions well before they occur.

What makes 5G different?

5G runs on the same radio frequencies that are currently being used?for?your smartphone,?on Wi-Fi networks and in satellite communications,?but?it?enables technology to go a lot further.?

Beyond being able to download a full-length HD movie to your phone in seconds 5G is?really?about?connecting things everywhere?–?reliably, without lag – so people can measure, understand and manage things in real time.?

5G evolution

Things have changed a lot since the first generation of mobile technology.

  • The 1G era was defined by briefcase-sized phones and short conversations between a relatively small number of professional people.
  • In the lead up to 2G, the demand for mobile services grew and never slowed down.
  • Phones that could fit in your pocket, SMS ?and mobile internet access were hallmarks of the 3G world.
  • Thanks to 4G, we have smartphones, app stores and YouTube.
  • Now, 5G is completely reshaping both our professional and personal lives by enabling new use cases like connective vehicles, Augmented Reality and enhanced video and gaming.
