5G roll-out: Use cases, digital inclusion and laying the groundwork for future innovation

With our current digital world and ever-growing information economy comes increasing demands for greater speed, capacity and reliability - and, given the turbulence of the last few years, 5G-enabled technologies have firmly cemented their place in the world’s industries.?

The new wave of 5G technologies promises to bring immense opportunities, the likes of which would have been pretty inconceivable a decade ago. It is paving the way for digital transformation, improving process security through new cloud infrastructure, improving operational efficiency, and enabling us to go beyond physical environments, through metaverse settings and smart devices.?

From smart vehicles and wearables in healthcare , to cultivating the first 5G Connected Forest , organisations such as Hyundai Motor Group , Augmedix and Nottinghamshire County Council are demonstrating how this network can be the ‘generation for business’.?

Since 2019, around 70 countries have established 5G networks and, according to CSC INSIGHTS, INC. , connections are set to reach 1.2 billion by the end of 2022. Those triumphing in the market include 三星电子 , 诺基亚 , 华为 , 爱立信 , 中兴 and T-Mobile - with many more that follow their lead.

Key figures driving the global transition to 5G include companies like Tech Mahindra and CommScope , as well as leaders such as Katherine Ainley , Edwige A. Robinson and Frank Wilde .

In the face of such advancement, cybersecurity , digital inclusion and dismantling the digital divide remains at the top of the agenda for telecoms - and the road towards achieving ‘5G for all’ has only just begun.

Digital reports such as Vodafone Fiji 's 'Cultivating connections and enhancing underprivileged lives ', and discussions on the Cloud & 5G stage at Tech & AI LIVE this year, are just two examples of the research and discussions being undertaken to help to close the digital divide.

Amongst those who took to the stage are Amir Abdelazim ( Detecon ), Jessica Ellis ( 德勤 ), Jeremy Spencer ( BAI Communications ) and Paul Gowans ( 捷迪讯通讯技术有限公司 ).
