5G is key!

The digital revolution is changing the big business players and there are many digital initiatives underway. I am convinced though that 5G is key for almost all of them, because it will be the fundamental driver for other technologies related to digitalization. We are at a time when the foundations of a new model are laid. In a recent interview with Spanish paper La Razón, I made very clear that building our own European infrastructure, independent of the United States or China, is a vital priority if we don’t want to lag behind.

With EIT Digital’s partners Nokia and Ericsson, we are fortunate to have two global leaders in 5G. They were already big stars in the early days of mobile telephony in the late nineties. After some years of heavy competition from their Asian counterparts, they are now resurfacing like two phoenixes as 'European champions' of 5G.

This a huge chance for Europe to remain competitive, lead a development of global dimension and keep jobs in the region.
