5G is approaching and these start-ups are leading the way

Spanning industries from automotive, healthcare, gaming and sports, there are many start-ups considered to be “5G natives,” meaning they have grown up with the technology and are simply waiting for the rest of society to catch up. I’m certainly fascinated and following 5G closely, as we know that it will change the nature of how we live and work.

Erik Brenneis, CEO of Vodafone Global Enterprise recently summarized some very intriguing and inspiring examples of 5G Natives that I encourage you to read in depth. My favorites from the list include:

• CARFIT, a predictive maintenance start-up also in the Connected Automated Vehicle (CAV) space is using next gen technology to “take the mystery out of car maintenance.” They are able to analyze noise, vibrations and harshness of a car and use machine learning to identify patterns to signal the car may need repairs. I’ll always be a fan of making car maintenance easier!
• SurgeonMate, a start-up out of Portugal, plans to use low latency, next gen capabilities to make surgeons more effective. With the use of SurgeonMate Vision – voice controlled smart glasses – surgeons can create detailed libraries of past surgeries to learn and teach from. They can even live stream surgeries straight onto the secure, cloud-based library - meaning they can share their knowledge with fellow doctors seamlessly. Amazing work!
• Math and Sport, uses applied mathematics and data science to help players optimize their performance. At the highest levels of competition, the finest margins can be the difference between winning and losing. This will be a remarkable advancement for athletes.
