Level 5 - The Science of Finding Purpose in Life: How Discovering Your Life Why Can Lead to a Fulfilling and Meaningful Existence

Finding purpose in life is an essential part of our overall well-being. Research has shown that people who have a sense of purpose tend to be happier, healthier, and more resilient to stress. In this article, we will look at the science behind finding purpose in life and how it can lead to a fulfilling and meaningful existence that encompasses both the physical and spiritual aspects of our being.

The first step in finding purpose is to identify your ?Big Why“. This is the underlying purpose or reason for your existence. It's what motivates you to get up in the morning and keeps you going throughout the day. While some people may find their life why through religion or spirituality, others may find it through their career, relationships, or hobbies.

Actually, in my work, I often encounter materially successful people who lack health, fulfillment, and joy in life.

It IS possible to have a fulfilling and meaningful life alongside a successful career! This requires a strong "why" and corresponding actions.

Research has shown that having a strong sense of purpose is associated with better physical health. Studies have found that people with a sense of purpose tend to have lower levels of inflammation, lower risk of heart disease, and a longer life expectancy. Having a life why also helps people cope with stress and recover from illness more quickly.

But finding purpose isn't just about physical health. It's also important for our mental and emotional well-being. Studies have shown that people who have a sense of purpose tend to be happier, more satisfied with their lives, and more resilient to adversity. They also tend to have lower rates of depression and anxiety.

So how do we find our life why? One way is to reflect on our values and passions. What matters most to us? What brings us joy and fulfillment? Another way is to consider our strengths and how we can use them to contribute to the world. We can also think about the impact we want to make and how we want to be remembered.

Once we have discovered our life's purpose, we can align our actions and decisions accordingly. If your life's purpose is to help others, for example, you could find a way to share your experience and knowledge. If it is important to you to spend more time with your family, you could adjust your work schedule to allocate more time for them. If your health is suffering due to your workload, find a way to incorporate a self-care task into your daily routine that strengthens you.

In my programs, I teach my clients how to achieve this without adding extra time but creating a significant change in their perception and overall life satisfaction. The search for the "Big Why" is one of the first steps I guide my clients through. When we act from a place of motivation driven by the "Big Why," we have more energy available, and we can navigate challenging phases more effectively. A strong connection to our purpose makes us more resilient.

While finding purpose is important, it's also important to strike a balance between material success and personal fulfillment. Research has shown that people who prioritize material success over fulfillment tend to be less happy and have higher rates of depression and anxiety.

In conclusion, finding purpose in life is crucial for our overall well-being. By discovering our life why and aligning our actions with our purpose, we can create a fulfilling and meaningful existence that encompasses both the physical and spiritual aspects of our being. So take the time to reflect on your values, passions, and strengths, and discover your life why today.
