5784: Jewish Year in Review
As we reflect on the past difficult and challenging year, Yad Sarah’s commitment to serving communities across Israel has never been more vital.
From hastening operations in times of war and crisis to expanding our reach with new branches, Yad Sarah’s volunteers, staff, and supporters have come together to meet the needs of the wider Israeli population.?
Here’s a look back at some of the ways we made a difference this year:
Branching Out:
This year, Yad Sarah continued to grow to 127+ branches serving communities across Israel in need. We’ve opened new facilities in the North, including our northernmost facility in Majdal Shams, which, thanks to having been opened in March 2024, allowed us to help and support the community in the aftermath of its deadly rocket attack in July.?
We are preparing for the unveiling of our highly anticipated Beit Yad Sarah in Ashdod. This new, multi-story center in Ashdod will offer a wide range of services, including rehabilitation, legal aid for the elderly, and equipment lending & repairs.?
Supporting War Relief Efforts:
Since October 7, Yad Sarah has played a crucial role in supporting those affected by the war. With an uptick in equipment loans for those wounded, home hospital beds, and transportation services for evacuees, our volunteers have been working hard to ensure all who need assistance receive it.
We’ve taken special honor in assisting the family of Bar Kupershtein (22), who was kidnapped on October 7, and hosting disabled and elderly evacuees in our Yirmiyahu 33 hotel in the beginning months of the war. Our airlifted medical equipment and extensive preparations for escalations in the northern region are just two examples of the lengths we go to ensuring Israelis are cared for in times of crisis.
Creating Intergenerational Experiences:
Volunteering at Yad Sarah is more than just an act of service; it’s a chance to create connections amongst Israeli society. This summer, we saw grandparents and grandchildren come together, volunteering side by side. During the year, sergeant Evie Turen, granddaughter of Yad Sarah’s Director of International Affairs, Philip Bendheim, and her fellow military commanders were hosted for a day of volunteering at Yad Sarah’s Jerusalem headquarters.
One standout moment was when students from around the country participated in a contest to develop rehabilitation solutions for the elderly. During holidays, homebound individuals were escorted via our nechonit service (accessible transport) to spend time with their children and grandchildren. One standout moment was hosting Ser
More Services, More Inventory:
Yad Sarah is always innovating to meet the needs of the Israeli population. This year, we introduced several pieces of key equipment and services, including advanced fall detection buttons that can connect via mobile devices, an increase in visits to the homebound by our mobile dental clinic, and even personal assistant robots for those in rehabilitation. These new additions ensure that we remain at the forefront of providing top-quality humanitarian care, helping Israelis live safer and healthier lives.
We are facing one of our most challenging years as the high holidays approach. Yet, we remain committed to supporting every Israeli, no matter their location or challenge.
Thank you for being part of Yad Sarah’s journey.
