54 Hours: Fasting Observations

54 Hours: Fasting Observations

As an entrepreneur, I am always looking for ways to optimise my mental cognition, physical energy, and clarity of thought.

I recently tried a 54-hour fast, consuming only tea, black coffee and water, and the results were freakishly impressive. I had a lot of people ask me questions so I am happy to share some observations.

During my fast, my physical energy started to skyrocket. I was able to run and lift weights on a empty stomach whilst I felt my body cleansing itself. It was like my body was resetting and rejuvenating, almost like how our ancestors in the savannahs would have fasted when food was scarce.

Perhaps most surprising was the clarity of thought that fasting provided. I felt more creative and innovative, and I was able to approach problems with a fresh perspective. It was as though my brain had been given a reset button, and I was able to think more clearly. I also felt my willpower. emotional management and impulse control dramatically improve post 24-36 hours as my body started to replace hunger pangs with a feeling of tranquil equilibrium.

I am loving the process of connecting with bio-hackers, longevity experts & bio-tech founders to discover a range of powerful health benefits including immune system reset, cellular autophagy (where the body eats itself), body-fat optimisation and even potential disease/cancer prevention.

If you're interested in trying a fast for yourself, there are a few tips from scientific communities that make the experience more manageable and effective:

1. Time-restricted eating: This involves limiting your eating window to 6-8 hours per day. This can help your body adjust to the idea of fasting and may make longer fasts easier to handle.

2. Intermittent fasting: Intermittent fasting involves fasting for shorter periods of time, such as 24-36 hours, 2-4 times per month. This can be a good way to reap some of the benefits of fasting without committing to longer fasts.

3. Extended fast: For those who feel ready to take on longer fasts, extended fasting (72-96 hours) can be an option. This can allow for deeper autophagy and cell regeneration, but it's important to stay very, very hydrated during the fast. Listen to your body!

4. Fasting Mimicking Diet: This involves consuming <500 calories per day for 3-5 days. While the first few days may be tough, there is usually an energy boost and mental clarity by day 4.

I cannot stress the importance enough of listening to your body and speaking to experts and your doctor. It's important to approach it safely and responsibly.

I was able to start with time-restricted eating and gradually incorporate other approaches to find what works best. For those who can tolerate it, it can be an effective way to reset the body (literally) and optimize cognitive and physical performance.
