53 days in lockdown and the lessons I’ve learnt.

Trying to work from home has had its challenges for sure and for the first 14 days I felt like groundhog day would never end. I needed to find routine and most importantly I needed to find a balance between work and family time.

Up until March 23rd my life had routine and a purpose. I knew how my month was mapped out and what my diary had in store for me. Whether it was meeting clients, spending time with family or friends, playing golf, football, working out I knew where I stood. Life wasn’t meant to stop 53 days ago but it did for so many people including myself. I knew I needed to make a change and I needed to do it quickly and because of that I am now enjoying lockdown more than I thought I would. I get up early ( mainly because my 2 boys jump on me ), load up the DVD player and 1 hour later Insanity workout is complete. 7.30am comes, both kids dressed , breakfast on the table and by late morning home schooling is finished and now my day can finally start.

I have structure back in my life and most importantly i've learnt to appreciate to take the positives out of a negative situation. I get to see my family more, I get to see my boys grow up and I know that when we get out of this - Which we will, everyone one of us will be better for it.

For me , I now appreciate that I need to Look after key relationships. Your partner, your children, parents and grandparents, siblings, closest friends. Really try to look out for them.

Stay active. The temptation to do nothing is strong. Try to resist it.

Exercise. Clear your mind

Watch your diet. For many people, boredom and loneliness = eating. It is important to be aware of it. Try to eat healthily.

Sleep. Don’t spend your life on Netflix

Listen to music regularly.

Keep in touch with the people you would normally be in contact with and most importantly Keep things in perspective. Don’t panic.

Most people are being kinder now. There is more respect for so-called unskilled workers, and much more appreciation for the NHS.

We all need to remember that all crises end eventually. Stay positive, Stay focussed and most importantly Stay safe.

Hope to catch up with you face to face in the not too distant future.
