#526: The MTL One-Day Course Plan on "Presenting to a Business Audience"

Introduction to this One-Day Course Plan on Presentations

Today, on the "People Skills" newsletter, we're showing you how easy it is to train your staff in soft skills by using the "MTL One-Day Course Plan". With this step-by-step plan, you can get your team together for just one day and focus on teaching them one key soft skill in the day. And our topic today is "Presenting to a Business Audience".

So, here are the steps...

-----

Pre-Course Preparation

The first part of the MTL One-Day Course Plan is the "Pre-Course Preparation". This consists of notifying all course participants about the time, date, and venue of the course and providing them with pre-course preparation material.

Amongst other worksheets on the Pre-Course Preparation, you can send all your trainees the course "Self-Assessment" worksheet so that they can think about how well they know the topic already.

-----

Session 1: Welcome!

The first session of the course itself is the Welcome! session. This covers your welcome to the trainees, basic administration tasks such as the attendee list, and dealing with any concerns.

You can also hand out the following "Course Details" worksheet. On this worksheet, there are 5 course targets which you can read out to your trainees and explain that they will be used at the end of the course to see what trainees have learned. These are...

1. give 5 ways to win over an audience

2. suggest 3 ways to charm an audience

3. list 6 of the twelve most persuasive words

4. name 4 audience types

5. state 5 ways to appear confident.

The "Welcome!" session lasts 20 minutes. (Total course time so far: 20 minutes)

-----

Session 2: Icebreaker 01

The first icebreaker is aimed at getting trainees to have a bit of fun and, at the same time, find out more about their colleagues.

There are 100 icebreakers you can use in the "Trainers' Resources" category of MTL.

For this particular course, we've picked the icebreaker, "My Buddies", which you'll find in the "Learning About Others" slide topic on Manage Train Learn.

This icebreaker gets the group to submit a piece of personal information and to see if the rest of the group can guess who it is.

The "Icebreaker" session lasts 20 minutes. (Total course time so far: 40 minutes)

-----

Session 3: Discussions

The Discussions session gives trainees the chance to think about the course and what they want to learn from it. They can also discuss with others what they already know about the course topic.

You can also hand out the following "Group Discussion" worksheet, so that trainees have questions to talk about.

The "Discussions" session lasts 35 minutes. (Total course time so far: 75 minutes)

-----

Coffee Break

The "Coffee Break" lasts 15 minutes. (Total course time so far: 1 hour 30 minutes)
