500 LinkedIn Recommendations

McKinsey have a mantra. They never talk about their clients but their clients talk about them.

Because of the nature of our work the same applies to us. I called my first company in Asia Black Marketing. Why? Because we are in the shadows of managing entrepreneurs and CEO's and superstar's LinkedIn profiles. We are the dark art of marketing.

I called my second company The Dark of Marketing because it was a natural extension of Black and because we manage superstar's personal branding. But it's never about us, it's about our client.

In both cases you are not supposed to know or even think that it's not the star you're engaging with on LinkedIn or the star that you're reading or responding to you. Therefore we can never go out there and say that we manage one of our client's LinkedIn profiles and personal branding strategies.

Many clients also do not want us to say that their LinkedIn profiles or personal branding are being managed by us for the same obvious reasons. We have strict confidentiality agreements in our contracts for this very reason. Many potential clients are therefore disappointed that I can never show actual clients personal branding strategy or LinkedIn profiles. But the same applies to them. I would never reveal that we worked for them.

However many of our clients are happy to talk about us. It's in that context that receiving 500 LinkedIn recommendations is even more of an achievement.

The 500 recommendations that we have received are not just for me but for my team's performance. LinkedIn doesn't allow recommendations on company pages anymore so clients are happy to say what a great job my teams and I do on my LinkedIn profile instead.

As a result I asked my my entire team to use the creative below my SlideShare file as their email signature because the recommendations are about them as well as me.
