500 -600 yds passing

Thank you to #football coaches for your questions last week. Here’s part 1 of my answer:

Our key to explosive no-huddle passing for decades has been establishing a tight-end deep threat using 3 separate strategies:

1. Tight end online on our right-side next to the tackle with a second TE on the same side as the online TE, in the backfield next to the QB in a shotgun formation.

2. Tight online flexed in the slot on our right with a second TE between the slot TE and the tackle.

3. TE offline in the slot on our left side and motioning/shifting him to unlimited spots along the LOS.

At our level of football, these 3 strategies are the best way to put any defense in the toughest bind, regardless of coverage, when our SWAT no-huddle establishes the all-important Rhythm & Flow according to our 8-second rule.

Our no-huddle game-plan has been the same every game for decades:

1. send the TE on a deep pattern of at least 26 yards, on a seam post, or corner, on at least five plays in the first quarter.

2. Send the TE on shallow 30-degree crossing pattern to the lowest part of the opposite flat, after the 5th deep pass.

3. Minimum of 18 intended passes to the TE per game

4. Minimum of double-digit TE receptions per game.

Combined with the speed of our no-huddle and our route combinations called at the LOS in joint collaboration between the head coach and QB, our offense routinely passed for 500-600 yards with bare minimum resources since the 1990s when we transitioned from high-speed ground & pound to air & pound.
