Gambetti Kenologia, a leading company in the high-vacuum and ultra-high-vacuum technology sector, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Founded in 1974 by Glauco Gambetti and his wife Clementina Borghesani, the company has played a fundamental role in introducing and developing cutting-edge technologies in Italy.

From Origins to Market Leadership

The story of Glauco Gambetti and his wife Clementina Borghesani is a classic example of Italian entrepreneurs who "started from scratch" and achieved success through great passion and courage. These stories, at times heroic and at times visionary, highlight individuals who have become landmarks in Italian entrepreneurship.

Eyewitnesses to the technological evolution of the last five decades, they intuited the transformative potential of high and ultra-high-vacuum technologies in scientific research and industry. His pioneering vision led them to establish Gambetti Kenologia, with the aim of spreading the expertise of advanced foreign companies in Italy.

The company took its first steps by marketing high-vacuum (HV) equipments produced by Officine Galileo, and then rapidly expanded its portfolio of international partners.

Among the debut collaborations :

• 1975: Agreement with Airco Temescal for turbomolecular vacuum pumps. This partnership marked Gambetti Kenologia's entry into the high-performance vacuum pump market. Airco Temescal's turbomolecular pumps represented the state of the art in vacuum technology at the time, allowing unprecedented vacuum levels to be achieved in industrial and research applications.
• 1976: Representation of Tencor (now KLA) for profilometers. This collaboration was crucial for Gambetti Kenologia's entry into the microelectronics sector. Tencor profilometers became indispensable tools for measuring thicknesses and analysing the results of thin film deposition processes, significantly contributing to the advancement of semiconductor technology in Italy.
• 1985: Partnership with Plasma Technology (now Oxford) for plasma processes. This collaboration enabled Gambetti Kenologia to offer cutting-edge solutions for surface treatment of materials. Plasma Technology systems found application in numerous sectors, from microelectronics to the production of optoelectronic devices, opening up new possibilities for the Italian industry.

• 1986: Distribution of MKS Instruments products, including the revolutionary Baratron?. This partnership was fundamental to Gambetti Kenologia's establishment in the field of precision metrology. The Baratron?, which became the international standard for pressure measurement in thin film manufacturing processes, allowed the company to offer high-precision measurement solutions essential for controlling advanced industrial processes.
• 1988: Introduction of Commonwealth Scientific ion sources. This collaboration marked Gambetti Kenologia's entry into the field of space technologies applied to industry. Ion sources, originally developed for satellite propulsion, found innovative applications in ion-assisted deposition of thin films, opening new frontiers in the production of advanced materials. Today, for the same technology, there is an agreement with Kaufman & Robinson, founded by Dr. Kaufman, a NASA scientist and pioneer of this technology.
• 1989: Collaboration with Camscan for scanning electron microscopes. This partnership allowed Gambetti Kenologia to enter the field of forensic analysis and advanced scientific research. Camscan electron microscopes, known for their application in gunshot residue analysis, became fundamental tools for Carabinieri and Scientific Police laboratories throughout Italy, consolidating the company's role as a supplier of critical technologies for national security.

Continuous Innovation and Specialisation

Under the current leadership of Aman Gambetti, the company now represents over 20 leading international partners in the semiconductor and nanotechnology ecosystem, covering process systems, surface characterization, measurement and control.

Since 2003, Gambetti Kenologia has also established itself as a manufacturer of plasma systems for surface treatment, further expanding its technological know-how.
